About me:
I'm a navy mom who's son is serving on the uss Miami
He is a submariner who is in the process of earning his dolphins. This has been his life long dream.
I am here to support or represent my:
Matthew
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it, Was proud, Encouraged him/her, Said “No way!”
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
To honor his "calling". Also to understand that it was not about
me and what I was hoping for his future. He is an amazing young man. I'm so proud of him, but I miss him so much.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
This was a maturing experience, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Hi Carol ~ My son is riding along with the USS Miami....he is a CS on the North Carolina, which is in dry-dock at the moment. My question to you is....Do you have the information for the ombudsman? He gave me the name & phone number but the number either was disconnected or wrong. I'm getting a little frustrated because I really would like to be part of the emails of updates on how everything is going. I won't post the name here, or the number.....but if you could, would you please email me the information so I can be added to her list? I really appreciate your help. I have been on line al day trying to find a link...to no avail. Thanks to you in advance!
And Happy Mother's Day to you !!!

Alex just called. We didn't talk long because he was standing on the pier. He sounded so cold that all I said was" where do I send the passport." He did say to send it priority mail, so it sounds like they will be going out soon.

OMG, thank you so much for that information. I am divorced from his dad, so it would make it hard to decide who goes. What is Great Lakes like? Do you ever get to see what goes on?

I haven't heard from Alex since he returned to Groton. Before he left, he applied for a passport. He'll need it for the deployment. I have no idea where to send it. Do you have any idea if the boat is out? I know that he can't use his cell phone on base, he can't get a signal. But he didn't say anything about being gone in Jan. I really don't want to send the passport off until I know he'll be there to get it.

I,m glad to hear that you got to tour the sub. Both Alex and my husband agree that there is no way I could get on board because I have some trouble getting around. Ladders are just out of the question. We had Alex home from Dec 28 to Jan 3rd. We agreed to go to Groton when they get back. His Dad, being an ex-Navy Nuc has been on a fast atttack, so he knows well what the environment is like on the sub. Right now I'm trying to get in touch with Alex so I can find out where to send his new Passport. They need it for the deployment. I need to know if I send it to the Navy address or his off base address. But he seems to have dropped off the radar since he returned to Groton. Right now we are trying to sell our house because my husband's company is moving. I kidded Alex that we'll let him know where home is as soon as we know. I was glad to hear that the boys know each other.

Carol, my son just left to return to Groton. I'm actually waiting for him to call and let me know he got back safely. Alex is an ET on the Miami. He should be getting his dolfins shortly. He says they are going to deploy some time in Spring or Early summer. It will be his first deployment. I wish I could say that he's planning on staying in the Navy, esp. considering his possible re-enlistment bonus. But he told us today that he will definitely be getting out when his hitch is up in 2012. I kind of figured that might be the case. He hasn't gotten anything he's asked for since Basic and is disillusioned with the Navy.

Hi Carol! Your son has been in Groton since last February?? Is he still in school or is he stationed there? My husband is going to be an ET but he still doesnt know how long his a-school is. When did your son find out the length of his a-school??
