Hello & Welcome to N4M’s!
My name is Catherine the Admin and I want to thank you for joining us! To help you know the “Do’s and Don’ts” for the community- I wrote up a quick little ditty for you to read. So click here and read them (pretty please with a cherry on top because the rules are enforced)! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns afterwards- please don’t hesitate to contact me.
So, enjoy your time here and I'm looking forward (along with the community) to reading more about you. :D
Sincerely, Catherine

I'm so glad to hear the Chaplain was helpful. I hope you hear something soon. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Welcome
I am sorry about your son. What is this that I read that he has "air pockets" in his lungs? Please add me to your friends list so that I can email you

Kim and Al, please take Maryann's advice, she knows what she is talking about also you can call the chaplain, There is one on call during the weekend and can get a message to your son that you are worried will need help in understanding what is going on and least let him know that you are pulling and praying for him and he is not alone in this, The NAVSTA Chaplains are wonderful, their number is 1-847-688-5610 and 1-847-688-3939. Good luck, make sure to contact Navy Legal on Monday.

Kim & Al,

I am so sorry to hear that your son is being discharged, and you must be scared to death about the air pockets in his lungs. Take a deap breath, things will be OK. I agree with Rita, about calling legal, you can find the numbers on the Ship 17 group. if you cannot find it, go to my page. I am a member of Ship 17 moms. My daughter was also discharged. I understand some of the emotions you are feeling right now. Don't panic though, Ship 17 has gotten much better than when she was in there. When you call legal, ask them to bring your son down to the office and have him call you. Be nice, yet firm. Usually within an hour they will call. He will need to sign a waiver before legal can give you any information. Tell him not to sign anything, except the waiver, just yet. Frieda is also a member on Ship 17 moms and she would have great advice for you, as her son was also discharged for medical reasons. If I can answer any questions for you, I will try. You may not be able to get through to legal until Monday, but try not to worry, they will take care of him.

`Hi chrisncorey mom. So sorry to hear about your son's being discharged.Had your son been sick in boot camp, with Pneumonia? sometimes air gets into the lungs in a case like that. You can't get thru to Legal until Monday now. You can call PUBLIC AFFAIRS 847-688-2405 .Tell them how worried you are, and they should get you a phone call.At the top of Ship 17 Moms, organized for recruits waiting for Separation, are a bunch of phone numbers that will help you. Here is the link.

Call the number for Legal early Monday to express your concern, ask they get your son to call with more details. The 5 minute phone calls are so distressing. You get enough info to worry but little real facts. You need to get the name of the exact conditon so you can find out exactly what is going on.
Sounds like he needs medical treatment before they send him home. I am an RN who worked in respiratory, so I can help you with figuring that out.
You need to use the numbers I have posted at the top of Ship 17 Moms to help him.
Take a deep breath, read thru ship 17 Moms, and make a list, including the questions you have, for the next contact with space to fill in the answers. Having gone thru separation for my son, not for medical reasons tho, I know how hard it is to deal with those short calls.

Call legal and medical in Ship 17, get names, ranks, numbers. If something sounds fishy, call your US Congressman and your Senator. The people in Ship 17 do not get proper treatment: medical, psychological....anything. If this lung problem was not picked up in his pre-Boot Camp medical stuff, what caused it to show up now? Hopefully his pre-Boot camp medical records aren't "lost", like my sons' were TWICE. Defend your kid like his life depends on it....I'm not exaggerating.
