My daughter just left today for Great Lakes. I am sitting here waiting on her call. Didn't cry in front of her but have been crying ever since. I am very proud of her but know i will miss her.

I am concerned with the news anchors and the 'twist' that they put on news stories which if you don't read or listen carefully will give you mis-information.
That being said...I also believe that there is a fine line between 'toughing-up' sailors and 'hazing' of sailors. Some of the training (gas chamber, what SEAL's go through) would be considered hazing by some.
Some very traditional ceremonies have aspects that some would consider hazing and others would view as part of the advancement ceremony.
I don't think that Jasmine should have any issues if she is prepared and really wants to serve in the Navy. The Navy personnel at Boot Camp are tough on the recruits, but the end result is a group of sailors that can operate as a team, which is what we need in the Navy...a group of sailors that can survive because they are a team.

Does Jasmine have enough time left to enroll in a 'fun' course at a community college? Does your local HS offer evening continuing ed courses? Could she do some volunteer tutoring at the local HS? Volunteer to help her recruiter? Local nursing home? Things to broaden her scope and fill her time...just some suggestions to make the waiting less painful...

My son was a book reader, but had no problem with boot camp...he bought himself a membership to the local pool and taught himself to swim and jump off of the high dive. He also ran in his spare time, did the sit-ups and push-ups, until he could make all of the minimum requirements. I feel if Jasmine works toward the requirements now, she will be allright when boot camp rolls around. My son got treated to the gas chamber on his birthday! He said that it was not too bad. Encourage her to always be at her best!!
The groups can be found under the N4M banner at the top of the page...click on the 'Groups' tab and then search for 'Depper's', 'Boot Camp' and 'Indiana' (which can also be found on my page).

Welcome aboard! Come join us on the Indiana group page!
You may also want to check out the DEPPER's and Boot Camp groups on this site. They have a lot of helpful information.
What will your daughter be doing in the Navy after Boot Camp?
