My son just graduated 9/25. I cried every single day that he was in boot camp, and the funny thing is... it doesn't stop! I miss him and think about him every single day. I guess that is why we are "moms". It is hard to let them grow up. I suggest y…

Oh boy, be careful on those crutches, but have fun.

I agree with the other comments. They've worked hard to get where they are and showing respect seems appropriate.

Absolutely dress in nice clothes. This is an important and traditional event. I thought the hoodies and jeans were inappropriate... but that is just me.

Is anyone in HIS division- 335?
August 26
I will be, thank you! It is just going to take me off my feet for a week or two which is not going to be easy since Andrew's PIR is the following Friday. I guess it will be crutches in the Great Lakes!!

Hi Christine, sent you a long PM (private message). If this is Andrew's last name too, then yes I would change your screen name. When I wrote the PM I wasn't looking at your screen name. It is best not to use last names on this site. First names are ok but not last, especially your sailor's. You never know who is reading this site, Better safe than sorry. I wouldn't panic over this, just change it and it will be changed on all the comments you have made on the site. Send me a message and those others that you talk to that you changed your screen name if you decide to.

You may want to change your screen name so that it does not include your last name, especially if it is the same as your soon-to-be sailor's since you have used his first name on the site, but maybe even if it is not, to help keep everyone safe. Blessings to you and yours.

Yes, they do sound home sick in their letters. So glad you got three letters. Now you just have a month to go and you have the best count down calendar with a younger sibling waiting so anxiously.

Hi Christine, haven't heard from you and wondering how you are holding up? Have you met moms that have a recruit on the same ship and in the same division as your son? Have you gotten any letters from him yet? When is PIR? I hope you are holding up, PIR will be right around the corner before you know it. We have not made a LI meet yet, but would like to. Keep in touch. Pat

Hello. I hpe all is well. Just wanted to tell you we stayed at the Days Inn-with 10 mins from the base. It is clean-free continental breakfast-daily paper. Free intranet use, coffee and tea all day-can make it in your room. the staff was very attentive to our needs. Room service on the linens-bathroom daily-they even picked up 5 boys things laying all over the place daily, lol. Right next to a Subway, McDonalds. and a Diner right across the highway. They have a shuttle that comes every Friday for PIR-cost is $3.00 per person. They get you there about 6:45-7:00 AM- you are right on time. Check it out on the internet-Days Inn at GL.

Hey, I hope you did better with getting the box than I did, but I still can't understand why the calling cards came back. I mailed Justin's back today. Have you found out his PIR date yet. Justin's is on Sept. 25. My form letter came today and that's how I was able to confirm it. Those few little lines made my day, even if he was asking me to send his girlfriend his address. Hope you have a good week.

Hi, Just wanted to say I am thinking and praying for you. My box came by fedex today, but the delivery driver said it was not due to be delivered until Monday. It just so happened that I had another delivery, so he went ahead and dropped it off. Everything came back except for his wallet, a roll of stamps and he pulled out a few pages from his address book. Everything else came back including the calling card.

christine - i think i read it wrong - did you hear from andrew yet? sorry

hi christine. I am glad you heard from Andrew. Dont worry about him eating. My son just said they didnt get alot of time to eat, but nothing about size order. When you find out what division he is in just write him letters or cards everyday. I had a massive effort going with my family and his friends. I bought him cards that just said hello . Just dont send anything that will stand out like music. We sent him cards just not musical ones. There is not always something you can say each day so cards filled in. You also may not hear from him for a while. They get mail but only get a short amount of time on sundays I believe to write, so dont expect much. and always be positive to him. I think sometimes the hardest thing even now is to tell him certain family things, parties and stuff that he misses. However I think because he is away and didnt have a choice of being there he missed it more. He has grown to appreciate certain things more. I guess he has grown up more. He will be fine. You will be amazed at some of the transformations you will see when you go to his PIR. Believe me I didnt get the best calls or letters from him during boot and I cried alot. But he made it through. Even when Paul was finishing A school having all his knee problems and sitting around doing
nothing because it took so much time to get medical do do something I cried plenty. He has a phone and boy the calls were not good. It was a total cheerleading squad trying to get him out of his funk and to refocus. But honestly the way things were unfolding I cant blame him. . But on the other hand most sailors obviously do their boot camp- go to A school and move on. Unfortunately that was not how it went for Paul. He is doing better now.
hope to talk to you soon. helene
