Hi texas mom, I would ask Kari about your concerns. If you scroll down a bit she gave me great advice on some things to watch out for to keep all our sailors safe. I don't know the answer to your question about the picture but just to be on the safe…

Kari-Thank you so much for your information and advice. I sure don't want to jeopadize my son or any other person's job or security!!! Thanks for taking the time to share some of the specifics that we need to be discreet about.

Hi Debbie:
well, if the guy wanted to talk to him about Jesus, that wasn't my son. He is strong in his faith, but he is not much for talking up or witnessing to anyone. He just doesn't feel comfortable doing that. Anyway, would be interesting to know if they knew each other or not.

Stay strong!

Jon had a lot of friends from classes coming up behind him. For example, he loved to surf but none of his surfing buddies were in his class. Your son will come along, Debbie! He has to find his own way but he will!
Jon picked Japan. He said when his class of 7 graduated, there were three openings in San Diego, two in Japan, and two individually elsewhere in the US. The three who wanted San Diego REALLY wanted it, and as much as Jon loved SD he didn't mind moving on. So he and one other in his class chose to go to Japan for three years. He was really nervous and excited at the same time - but he loves it so far. The toughest part on the GW for him is being lonely. He doesn't have a really good buddy there yet, one who shares the same ideals and morals that he does. He is a christian who is struggling to keep his spiritual life alive in the navy. So he is kinda lonely...but otherwise he loves what he is doing. talks about how beautiful the ocean is...so clear and blue. His favorite part of the ship is the workout room which is open on one side to the ocean. He likes to go there in the evening and run on the treadmill, put on a headset with his ipod, and watch the ocean go by and the sunset. I pray he makes a good friend soon.

Keep me informed on how your son does and I will continue to pray for him. Ask him if he knew someone named "bader". Especially let me know when he does S. as he needs all the prayers he can get to get through that one!

I'm holding you up, my friend!

Debbie:
I thought I would take this off the "rescue swimmer" group but my son also went to boot summer of 2007. August 10th to be exact. Then from there to Pensacola, and then on to San Diego. He graduated San Diego in April, and is now in Japan for three years. He is currently out on the GW for summer deployment. When did you son leave for boot? I wonder if they knew each other in Pensacola or SD?

I too am in Wichita and my son is on the Louisiana sub in Silverdale WA. I miss him and do not get to see or hear from him near enough. Where is your son/daughter? How often do you get to see him/her? In the first year and a half I got to see my son less than 24 hours total in two visits. This year has been better with one 48 hr visit and one for about 5 days, but very expensive to get him here. The recruiter had told me he could "catch a ride" for "free or near free" anytime he has leave and comes home, but that has not been the case! I am counting the days until my son can be HOME, but it will be another 3 years at least!
