If you go to the MI mom's group page, scroll down, and on the left hand side will be events. You'll have to scroll thru to June 27, and you should find everything you need to know there. I haven't followed it too closely, because I won't be able to go. My son takes his boards in 3 weeks, and if all goes well, will graduate A school and be promoted to Petty Officer 3rd class on the 26th, so we'll be in Charleston to see him and celebrate. My son is a nuke ET, but still has another full year of school ahead of him after this A school grad.
Both IT and Sonar Imaging are great fields from what I hear. I'm sure there are groups for both on here, and you might be able to find out more information about each of them through those groups. There is a dad on my "nuke moms" group, who's son is a sonar imaging tech on a sub, and he loves it.
When it gets closer for you son to leave, there's lots we can tell you about boot camp, what to expect in those first few days and weeks. One thing for sure, make sure your son has a pre-paid phone calling card with him when he leaves, otherwise he might not ever be able to make the 30 second phone call home that tells you he got there safely. Our son didn't have one, and we didn't realize that both our home and cell phones wouldn't put collect calls through, so the poor kid was unable to call us that first night. It was frustrating for him, and awful for me!! (I slept with my cell phone! :) )
It's an exciting ride you're going to be on, full of ups and downs, but so far, I (and my son) have no regrets!)

Hi Kris,
Welcome to N4M's. You'll find this place full of information and support. I don't know if I would've made it through boot camp had I not found the site! Congratulations to your son, it's a big step, and hopefully one he will be very, very happy with. My son left 8 months ago and it took me a while to warm up to the idea, but now that I see how much he has matured and changed, I am certain that joining the Navy was the best decision he's ever made. There is a pretty active MI group, and a bunch of us in SE MI got together about 2 months ago, and plan to do so again sometime after the Frankenmuth getogether. Also, once your son leaves for BC, you'll be able to find, or start a group, for his specific Division, and that'll help you tremendously to get to know other moms in the throes of bootcamp. If you have any questions, ask away! What will your son be doing in the Navy?

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley (20), has been in the Navy since July 2007 and is an IT3 & my son Tim (19), an SH, has been in since Feb 2008 stationed on the USS Nimitz. What will your son be doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your recruit. Pat

You're welcome and thank you for your kind words! My son is currently about to graduate high school (prom's tonight). It's my daughter who is the sailor in the family, she's on deployment now. I'm getting more used to her being in the Navy since she's been in almost a year now. Combining the party is what I did with my daugther's graduation party too.

Again congratulations on your son's desire to serve! Have a great Memorial Day.
