Thanks for the encouraging words, I still am so concerned for her. She has never been away from home accept for band events at WVU where I though she was going after graduation. She shocked us with the Navy news. I am so proud of her, she is a reall…

Anybody who is mentally that competative as a swimmer shouldn't have problems going into the Navy. I'm sure she understands that there are people faster than she is, so if she can't be the best sailor the Navy has ever seen it won't destroy her conf…

She's now swimming

Hi All
My granddaughter is now a member of HS swimming team! She will be swimming freestyle and her first meet is next week. Keep your fingers crossed, she is so competetive, she won't settle for second place and I don't want her to think she's not good enough, that's why I worry about her going to the Navy.
Keep her in your thoughts
J

Hello, The 900 I mentioned is a 900 Division. That is a performing division, so on top of learning all there is to learn at boot camp (like everyone else) they have practices for drill, band and choir. My daughter was in Division 946 during boot camp. She played with the band. Even if your granddaughter didn't get in as a musician, she can be assigned to the band that performs at the boot camp graduations. My daughter did her first audition prior to joining the Navy. She was told to work with a tutor for a few months and come back. She decided to join the Navy even without passing the audition so when she went back for her second audition she was already in the Depper program (delayed entry) She passed the second audition and changed her job to musician before she went to boot camp. She loves her job. Currently she is on the USS Blue Ridge, on tour with her band.

Your grand daughter will be in basic training for about 8 weeks. You can write to her as often as you like and they are allowed to write letter every Sunday and they are mailed on Monday. Depending where you are in the country you should get a letter, if she writes, on Wed or Thursday. It's hard to say if you'll get a phone call as every division is different. I only heard from my daughter twice in the first 7 weeks. After she passed Battle Stations the week before PIR, I heard from her a couple of times. Will you be going to her PIR? Pat

She will be fine---I was so sick over my son enrolling when he was a Senior and going delayed entry as well. I came home from work one day and there was a Government Car in my driveway. But I could not be more proud of him and the rest of the young men and women that are serving our Country, they make me so proud of what they are doing. My experience was really hard, my oldest moved out on his own, my Husband left Me for another woman, Matthew joining the Navy and going overseas and my other 2 children where still young and in elementary school so they really din't understand how Mom felt at the time, I felt like all the Adult Men in my life were leaving Me. But like I have said she will do just fine and become a wonderful young Lady and make everyone proud of her. Thanks, Nina a very Proud Mother and Supporter of the United States Navy!!!! All of them to be honest----
