Thanks for the response to my question. one other question...does your husband finds that when they are underway he is working all meals with no break? I would assume there would be some sort of shift work.

My son is a CS and he told me that once on the ship he will be working 7 days a week with only four hours of sleep each night. Does anyone know if that is true or has someone been giving him the business. He is new there.

Hey Jesse's mom!
I'm not LynnA. She belongs to Chris but I guess you did mean Jake since our boys were good friends in BC!! I'm glad everything is going well for Jesse. How much longer does he have in A school? Jake had taken 3 test and has 9 more to go as well as 3-4 weeks of labs and clinicals. Still a tough road ahead!! He does enjoy school a lot better than BC!!! Ya'll keep in touch!

Hi my name is Lynn and my son Chris left for the Great Lakes (bootcamp) on June first he's in Div 258 USS Hopper. I haven't got a letter or phone call yet and I've been really down this week. The first week he left was so bad. The second week a little better but now its almost the beginning of week four and I'm just really not happy right now. It would be so nice just to get a letter or even better a phone call. I have been really emotional today. i've been sending letters everyday and really need one from him. I just keep thinking if I could just get something it would help me get through everything. My son and I are really close I got married & preganant when I was 18 so my entire adult life has been with him until now. It's been extremly hard which I'm sure it is for everyone. It does make me feel better to know I'm not the only one going through this and it helps to be able to talk about it. I love writing my son. I dont think I've ever wrote him before this and it feels good to be there for him in that way. Ok I think I'm going on a little to much anyway it made me feel better. I would love to talk to anyone that has a loved one in my sons div maybe you know something I dont which is pretty much anything because right now I'm clueless. I hope to get a lettter tomorrow as I hope we all do. Thanks for the support Lynn A

Hi, Jesse's Mom! Forgive me butting into a conversation, but I saw the post you left Janice re: knowing if a sailor is going to be on a submarine vs. ship. Actually, a sailor must volunteer for submarine service. There's then a bit of personality assessing (can't have claustrophia for sure!). And only men may serve on subs. Hope that helps! K.

Hi Jesse's Mom - Kathrine is a Yoeman - when she first swore in she chose Culinary Specialist, but after a few weeks they offered her the Yoeman job and she took it. Please keep in touch - I am on Facebook as well (Pam Grooms) and if you are on there, please friend me. I am having difficulty sometimes working my way around this site for some reason, but it is definitely a god-send!! Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi & welcome to Navy for Mom's:)) You will find a lot of answers, support and encouragement here. My daughter, Ashley (20), has been in the Navy since July 2007 and is an IT3 & my son Tim (19), an SH, has been in since Feb 2008 stationed on the USS Nimitz. What will your son/daughter be doing with the Navy? If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you joined and look forward to hearing more about you & your Sailor. Pat
