Navy08Mom, One thing I have learned from the Navy is that they work on "their" time. Just because you are in a hurry and want to know all of the details and particulars does not mean that they do. But in the end it is all worth it. Like your son sai…

Profile Information

About me:
I work fulltime in the telecommunications industry and work part time for Weight Watchers.

I am the proud mother of 2 sons, one of who is in the Navy and is currently stationed on the USS George Washington, the only permanently deployed aircraft carrier stationed in Yokosuka, Japan.
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
2 things. The Navy has been good for my son. It has taught him to interact with many people, talk to people, and to make new friends.

The second thing is that don't get in a hurry with the Navy. They work on their own time line and it may fit into your plans or it may not. It always seems that if you are trying to fit his plans into yours, you never find out until the last minute!!
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

When Katie flew to Japan via the Navy, she flew out of Chicago direct to Tokyo. Sometimes paying a little more is better than flying way out of the way. Airlines tickets are crazy anyway. Havey any idea when the 'high' or 'popular' season is for Japan when tickets are up just because of that? I know someone at work at was going to buy tickets for Florida over Christmas and waited 1 week and had to pay $150 more a ticket. My husband works for Northwest/Delta and it amazes me the prices, but then how many are flying when we decided to go anywhere. We have yet to see about going to Japan. We know Katie plans on coming home a time or 2 while she is stationed in Sasebo for 3 years. Dave use to have a passport back when he was in the Air Force, but only Katie and our daughter Alicia have passports now...Alicia needed it since she is at Lake Superior State in Sault Ste Marie and does nursing clinicals in Canada at times.

Kathy my son Chris is also in Combat Systems department but in the CS9 division so I don't know if he will have any contact with my son. Chris is an ET3 and enlisted in Dec 2006 and finished boot camp in March 2007. I don't know if you've been following my story but I have heard from my son since Jan 12th this year. I finally contacted the ombudsman and at 12:30 am 9/25 received an email from the master chief who sent me a number. I called the Master chief and he told me Chris does not want to speak with me. The sad part is I have no idea why. Anyway if you accept me as a friend I can send you my private email and include my sons last name. If your son doesn't want to get involved I understand but when I saw they were in the same division I just had to ask. thank you, barbara

Hi, Kathy, and welcome to Indiana Moms! Our informal 'state-wide' gathering is in Warsaw on October 10. Click on this date on the Events Calendar in the right-hand column for all the details.

As Pat has said, there's also a monthly dinner near Indy. It's at the Olive Garden in Avon on third Mondays. We call it the "Westies Dinner" because it's mostly attended by those of us on the west side, but we welcome ANYONE who wants to join us! Give a shout whenever you like, k.

Hi Pat, wanted to welcome you to AECF group - I see you already know Millye :-)
Is your son an ET or FC? Our son just reported to his first ship in Hawaii, he is an FC but we was born in Yokosuka as we are an old Navy family. We loved Japan - hope your son is as well.
