Hello....My son arrived April 18..... it seems that there is a lot of free time and he gets bored which, in return, he has been spending money on movies and places to eat,etc...... He has a decent buddy from boot camp that he tends to hang with and…

Kelly ~ I just got back from P-Cola and when we picked our daughter up, she didn't have to have a buddy with her. In fact, no one even checked. She's Phase 2. We pulled up right in front of her barracks and dropped her off in front of it.

.....I did see on here eairlier today where a sailor classed up sooner than expected, so it is probably not a good idea for them to take leave before they class up.

I do not know if they are allowed leave or not. My son did not come home before A school and that is why it has been so long since I have seen him. I think part of the problem is, they could class up at any time, so they don't leave cause it could delay thier start time. I do not know this for a fact, so if you want to be sure, I would ask Jacqueline on the pensacola group, she would know for sure. I do know you can go down to visit him tho!! I have heard of lots of moms doing that!!

I just heard about the lockdown awhile ago!! I know, I hate that too, but I think it makes them more appt to look out for each other. Someone should have stopped those underage guys from drinking maybe, or at least warned them or something, cause they all know that if someone gets in trouble they all do!!!! So your son is AM too? Joseph is aviation structual mechanic. there are different AMs , what is your sons ?? My son had to wait 5 and 1/2 months to class up!! I have heard they are trying to shorten that, but I don't know for sure when it is suppose to start, cause I also heard that they were putting a hold on everything untill oct-november!! So we will just have to see, you never know what to believe sometimes. But i am glad my son has finally classed up!! I am dieing to see him!! the Pensacola group os great!! Jacquline is a great help, so you can get a lot of info on that group if you hang out there alot!!

Yes it is very sad, but those sailors wont be around much longer. My son went through 3 lockdowns while he was there. It sure is a shame. Tell him to keep him head up aand keep his Military Bearing. Those who dont are the ones who will fall to the side.

Hi Kelly
There is no "typical" wait for any class. They are full with over 5000 students right now. I know they are working hard to class up people as soon as they can. He just needs to suck it up and know that he is not the only one on hold. He needs to take his ATT & AWAT and be prepared. Do everything he can to stay busy and just hang in there. He is getting paid, on a beautiful base, and crossing off time on his contract. Wish I could tell you a typical hold, but thats just not possible.

Hi there!! Yes... we all made it home. It was so hard to say good bye all over again. But at least he has his cell phone now and we can talk and text. It makes things so much nicer. It was good to see you there! Austin is in Mississippi now... he said his training may not start for up to 2 weeks. So that isnt too bad i guess. BUT 6 MONTHS!!?!! Holy shiz... why so long?

Wow Kelly, I just read this to Matt and all he could do is shake his head. Matt's orders were changed too but not all for the bad. Instead of being a Grad and Go to San Diego on Friday as planned, after PIR he told us that his orders were changed. He is now staying in Great Lakes for 34 days and begining his A school here. After that he will be sent to San Diego to finish up his school. They'll begin the basics here.

It actually worked out well for us because rather than following him to the airport on Friday, he had liberty with us through Sunday night. When he went to report to the new base, they told him he was being granted overnight liberty for both Friday and Saturday nights...we were thrilled. So things have worked out well for him/us.

I have to say Matt had told us that there were lots of kids whose orders were being put on hold. That was the original message he had received last week and then they changed again a couple of days before PIR. I'm not sure what's going on with orders right now but it seems that's happening to a lot of kids.

Good luck to Ryan. I really hope he's not put on hold that long. My friend's son had PIR on 2/13, was a grad and go and was put on hold. His A school isn't beginning until May 15th so he's been there in holding since 2/15. I really hope our boys aren't kept for too long. After Matt heard about Ryan, he said "I hope they don't hold me here for longer than they've told me." I guess time will tell. Keep in touch. Let me know how things progress.
