Hi Kulita, a belated welcome aboard N4Ms! Did you get to have your hubby home with the family all day on Christmas -or more -or was he with one of the newer Divs that didn't get adopted out for the day? When do they get to take leave?! Your family must have to sacrifice many of your needs to allow him to do the important, demanding job he does! Thank you.:) Mine was a 900 Div recruit who graduated back in the end of June. He said his RDCs and Chaplains had some very funny tales and some moving, inspiring stories to share with their Recruits. He respected them highly and I sure appreciate the way they challenged him to rise to his leadership potential!

I am a BC mom mentor here on site and here is one of the million dollar questions: True or False, (some of) the RDCs come on site here on N4Ms and read the pages of the Moms whose Recruits are in their Division in order to gain insight and knowledge about their trainees? Some Moms have said their new Sailors' RDCs knew who they were at PIR and/or had teased (or even sometimes punished/given a hard time to) their sons and daughters as a result.

Some moms are upset at the thought, others laugh and welcome the "intrusion" All would appreciate some guidelines (beyond the really obvious OPSEC stuff) as to what they should and should not post as far as pictures and personal, anecdotal info. How would you have felt if your Mom had been a member here while you were in BC and the Navy and what wouldn't you have wanted her to post? :>} Thanks for being available to clear up myths and misinformation and fill in the blanks of our knowledge as best you can. Hug that hard working hubby of yours from many grateful Moms of newly polished, disciplined grown up Sailors. Take care and Happy New Year! :-)

I am very new to this, and my husband is currently in GL for boot camp. I just wondered if you had any idea about the insurance and ID cards. Do I have to get that done myself while he is up there or is there paperwork I have to wait for?

Hi Kulita:

Welcome to NavyforMoms! My son PIR'd April 25, 2008. His RDC was PO Voorheis. My son thinks he is the funniest guy he's every met!

Currently my son is on a destroyer in the Gulf. Both of us are thankful to the RDC 's and Chiefs for all the thankless work they do.

Some of them read this website and I hope they get a chance to see first hand that there are many, many moms who are very grateful for their service to our Sailors!

Give that hubby of yours a big Navy hug from all of us Proud Navy Moms!!

Hi Kulita! Welcome and thank you for joining our group. Were you or your husband stationed at Fort Gordon at some point? My son started at Great Lakes in July of 2006, had his PIR in early September, then went on to graduate from DLI in Monterey in Feb 2008. He has been at Fort Gordon since then and was just awarded "Sailor of the Year" there! I was lucky enough to be able to attend his PIR at Great Lakes and his graduation from DLI as well. I don't know if your husband was at Great Lakes when my son was, but my thanks go out to him and all the others that help these young men and women get through basic training and keep a close eye on them for us "anxious" moms left at home. I was able to meet, shake the hands of my son's Division Leader and let him know how thankful I was, in return he praised my son's efforts there, which of course made me feel even prouder at the time. Hi Kulita! I just attended PIR 10/31 and loved it. Today it hit me...does anyone ever get to thank the RDC for the job they do? It takes a special kind of person to want to shape and mold that many knuckleheaded kids! I thought of sending an appreciation card to the Div. leaders but I don't want to get my kid picked on! He will be moving to A school this week, Let me just say I certainly appreciate and understand a lot of the "molding process" and I wish I could have met them at PIR.

Thank you for Kulita for joining our group. My son's RDCs certainly made a huge impression on him. He even missed boot camp when it was time to move on. He is in Groton training to be a Sonar Tech. He talks very fondly of his boot camp days. He once told me that the cadences played over and over in his head no matter what he was doing. He said they were there when he went to sleep, and also when he woke up! LOL.

My son said that he requested to be discharged and come home. Then he wrote again and said that a Chief talked some sense into him. Does this happen a lot? Will he have to pay a price for not "being strong enough"? I'm so worried.

I do want to thank everyone who has delivered their appreciation to the RDC's at Great Lakes. I will not be able to thank everyone individually, but please know that every message is read.
