Has anyone experience an under age drinking issue with an “A” school attendee in P-cola? Our son was called in for a blood alcohol test and it was .01%. He had 4 days left of A school and was supposed to graduate on 7/13. They took away his notes ...

Profile Information

About me:
Art and Lynn, Parents of our 19 yr old recruit PIR Jan 9, 2008. Div. 59 ship 11 Our home is in Canyon Lake, Texas, in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. This is located between Austin and San Antonio. We love the rivers, hills, parks and the warm blue lake. Cody is our only child and and we are proud that he has embarked on adulthood with such a positive start.
I am here to support or represent my:
Cody (BO)
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud, Was relieved, Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Write a lot, send them off with phone cards, make address labels and return address labels, send them stamps.

If you go to PIR, take them: new boxers, lounge wear for the hotel, i-pod or MP3, laptop, cell phone, charger. If you want to know more let me know.

Warn them to label their photo boxes and envelopes, easily mixed up and very costly if it happens.

Warn them about underage Drinking. It is NOT worth it. They will get busted down so far they will spend 3 years or more paying for it.

Tell them to always take responsibility for their actions and NEVER lie. This will hit them so hard they will think they are going to eat dirt forever.

NEVER disagree with a superior officer, even if they are dead wrong and you know they are being framed. That is insubordination.

Follow the rules, there are NO exceptions.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Lynn and Art, If Cody is interested and it helps, I'm located in Chico,CA which is about 10-12 hours from Seattle. It's on HWY 99, 85 Miles north of Sacramento, CA. If this works out for his route, we have a bed, nice hot shower, swimming pool, and a good meal. I work for our local Police Department, so you don't have to worry about that. If you or Cody are interested and we can be of assistance, please contact me. I'll be away from my computer for a couple of days, but can reply on Monday. I currently woprk graveyard weekends, but am generally off and available during the week.

Lynn,
No, Chris is not on ship, he is stationed in Korea. He is at Yongsan Army Garrison in Seoul. As far as the travel expenses, I'm not sure how it all works but what I have been told and read is that if they come home for leave between school and duty station or between schools the Navy can pick that up for them or the Navy will pick up the tab for their travel to their next school or duty station. It is my understanding that they will not do both. If a sailor wants to go home during that break and take leave time he/she must pay for their trip home and then if they leave straight from there to their next school or duty station the Navy picks up that portion. Since he plans to drive I believe he has to fill out a form after he gets to his next school/duty station to request reimbursment for his expenses. I don't know how long it takes for the paperwork to go through.
Chris was close enough he drove home after school and the Navy made his flight reservation from Charlotte (an hour from here vs 7 hours back to Virginia Beach) to Seoul and they paid for that leg of it. Chris bought his own gas home when he came for leave. Now I also understand that if Chris decides to stay in Korea for a longer tour, if he thinks he is going to stay for a few years he can get the Navy to pay to move him, but I think he is waiting until he has a family to move before he does that. I've heard that is a one time deal. Anytime they are assigned somewhere that travel/moving is involved they pay for the sailor's travel. If the sailor is traveling as a part of leave or liberty that must be paid for by the sailor.
I hope that messed up glob of info helped just a bit. teehee but that's all that I'm aware of. Maybe if you visit with the questions with a recruiter area on this site they may be able to answer it more clearly. I will check on the rest of the request. We have one mom in Colorado and we have one near Sacremento, CA. If you let me know what day he might be in one of those areas, I could ask but I make no promises there. Those are the only two I can think of that could possibly help him out. I'll be interested in hearing what he finds out about the reimbursment if you don't mind telling.
Have a good evening.

The reason I say check with his recruiter is because they messed up on his plane tickets and had him going straight to hawaii instead of coming home first, and now he does not have his ticket to hawaii and he said he was going to the recruiters to check on it. We never go anywhere, thanks anyway.

Sorry, I don't know. The Navy payed Joseph's air fair to both his schools except for his trip home, now they are suppose to pay his air fair to hawaii from home. That is all I know, tell him to call his recruitor.

Whidbey? Wonderful! Lynn I know Coty must be excited. Chris' orders to the Pentagon changed three weeks into his C school. He left Wednesday morning for S. Korea. I'm scared for him, but more because of a new culture, money, religion, political system, that he will have to become acquainted with. Not only that, but he will be somewhere other than a Naval base so he also must learn the protocol of another military branch.
So what is Coty's rating? Tyler (who was also Div. 059 and was at P'cola for AFH) went to San Diego and is on deployment on the R. Reagan. One of our IS moms has a daughter in Washington. I believe she is at Kitsap (sp?) as a PS (personnel specialist). I'm glad that Coty is happy with his rating and assignment. It sounds as though he is doing well. So how are you handling the engagement? Washington?
Thanks for the update. I love to hear about our Div. 059ers, and they never know when knowing who is where might come in helpful. :) Say hi to Art and all of you take care. Tell Coty thank you for his service and congrats on the engagement.
Navy Hugs,

Joseph finally got home yesterday after having not seen him for 9 months!! He had to go to a C school in Jacksonville before coming home. He will be home until around July 7th, then he will be going to his futy station in Hawaii!! Can you believe that?? He worked real hard to make good enough grades to get his pick of duty stations!! He had mentioned going to washington also, untill he saw the Hawaii orders!! He will be doing pretty much the same thing ass Cody. He will work on P3 Orions and fly with them whereevre they go and stay in 5 star hotels too!!! He choose to work on the P3s because they do not land on ships, so he will never have to be on a ship. Now I am gonna have to take a trip to Hawaii sometime!! LOL He has not said anything about getting married or anything, I am glad for that, he is 28 now, and he knows what he wants, and I do notthink a family is in his plans for right now, He wants to be chief, and he wants to go to school and of course he will be traveling all the time. He said they call sailors like him "samsonite sailors" because they travel so much and live out of thier suitcases!! He seems very happy and that is what is important to me, I am just gload to get to see him finally after all this time!! I am gonna see to it that he leaves here with a laptop and webcam so I can see him on a regular basis, not like before!! I am so glad to hear form you!! Keep in touch!!

Hi Lynn, I was going through some old stuff and came across your name and thought I'd see how some of the old 059'ers are doing. So Has Cody left P'cola yet? I know Tyler graduated from "A" schoola couple of weeks ago and should be in San Diego now. I think he left Cheryl's on Sunday. I'm going to call her tonight and find out for sure. He was supposed to have been baptized while he was home. I don't know if that happened or not.
Chris is supposed to graduate "A" school this week and then depending on his class up date for "C" school he may come home for a week or two to do his HARP. If he has to class up immediately then I suppose he will have to wait another two to four months to get leave. He should know by the end of the week his class dates and his first duty station. He's been home three times since we took his car to him so he's not suffering too badly by any means. He's having fun now that it's getting warmer. VA Beach is a fairly hot spot for college kids so yeah, he's not suffering as long as he gets some time off to hang out on the beach.
How are you and Art? I got laid off permanently in Feb. so I'm taking some freebie classes until summer when I get enrolled full time for college. I've decided to take sign language to become an interpreter. It will be a rough couple of years but I took my placement test yesterday and placed out of the Englishes and Maths so this summer I'll pick up my communications, psycology, and philosophy before I begin the core classes in the fall.
Keep me posted on where Coty is. you never know, they could end up on the same ship or at least the same homeport. Take care.
