My opinion is that you should definately attend your sailor's graduation. It's one of those once-in-a-lifetime events that you MUST NOT miss. Chances are you'll get to spend some time with your son after the ceremony, even if it's just a nice meal t…

It's been a year this week since my son left for boot camp. Besides missing seeing his 6'5" frame draped across the sofa, i miss doing his laundry and i miss cooking for him. I still haven't learned to downsize recipes. He'll be home for Christmas a…

You might consider a good sleeping bag for a graduation present. It will come in handy, especially if your sailor is assigned to a ship. My son said they are issued one wool blanket aboard ship, but they're allowed to bring their own sleeping bags.…

About me:
My son enlisted in the Navy last winter, and I'm so proud of him I can hardly stand it. I have a daughter in college and three gorgeous grandchildren. I'm retired and spend a lot of time with the kids, trying new recipes and putering in my garden. This is all still new to me, and I'm eager to chat with other Navy moms.

Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Melissa, Why is it that you won't speak to your son for so long while he is deployed? I thought there would still be sources of communication? No??? Ughhh... Good luck to you and your son! And yes, god this website is a god send, without question. Take care and thanks for your mail. Sue

Melissa, thanks for the reply and support. It sounds as if you have come to grips, which is wonderful, but I guess after a while, it does get easier and you come to realize it is what it is. Good luck to your son on his deployment. But 8 months, really and you can't talk to him the entire time? Ughh.. Take care Melissa
