From what I understand (mind you, all things are subject to change), next year is the Home for the Holidays year for the blue crew. I was told the switch took place every three years. Is it true? Only time will tell. Having a vacant place never gets…

I heard it was the cargo ship, the Maersk Alabama, which was initially hit by the pirates. It sails out of Norfolk Virginia from what I understand. The Navy ship used in the release was a warship based in San Diego from reports I have heard. Not much…

Marla, Do you have the ombudsman's email address? because that one is even more important than the FRG group (in my humble opinion) Jena Aldridge is the ombudsman and she sends lots of info via email

alabamafrg.blue@gmail.com is the FRG email address
Ask them to add you to their mailing list and tell them who your sailor is!

Hi Marla! I saw your post on "Roll Call..." My son, Drew, is on ALABAMA Blue as a MM3. Which crew is your guy on? If you'd like to be 'Friends,' send me an invite. (I don't send them out, just so folks don't feel compelled...) Hugs! k.

hello! I love your comment 'He is doing what God wanted him to do'. jeff spent years in his MYF group doing Habitat for Humanity, which took him from SC; pa.; maine; ny, etc. Did it surprise me that he decided to go in the Navy to be a Seabee....absolutely not! he had been given the opportunity to discover what he really wanted to do with his life. Please tell your son hello from a navy Mom from R.I.

Thank you so much for the response. I asked my son if he knew "Bama" but my son says he only knows guys by their last names. I'm sure you get the same response of 'mommmm' how am I supposed to know everyone. Yes the Alabama was amazing. There was a little screw up with the Marines at the checkpoint at the Pier and my name wasn't on the list. I eventually got on but it took a little while. Nick is a MMFN. He's still qualifying. He was out on the Jackson on their last deployment. Wow first 'aways' are difficult especially for moms. LOL! Now I know more of what to expect. Look forward to talking to you more.

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
We (dad and I) had already done all we could do. It was time to let him go with the understanding he is more God's than he is ours. If he was doing what God wanted him to do then God will guard him and lead him - and He has.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.
