Great pix Debbie! How embarrassing for such a great country as ours to be led by this poor excuse!

I just wrote about terrorists and ommitted the word soil after American. Please excuse the error.

I believe that the terrorists should be tried at Guantanamo not on American. These people are scum and should not have the right to set foot in our country. Perhaps I am old fashioned but we are far too kind to these miserable jerks! You all know ...

Sounds like Galen is doing great! The surgery was ok, except I've broken stitches twice. The first time, the doc deadened and re-stitched. The 2nd time, it was healing pretty well, so I haven't even told him - don't want to drag out this recovery ...

Galen is as happy as a lark, playing in three different groups. His placement exams are this week and we are hoping that he pretty much tests out of all the courses. If so he will be in the Norfolk bands in February. They are driving to Pittsburgh...

I saw the commercial a couple of nights ago. It's really heartwarming but a real tear jerker.

Really don't know much, Betty. Kelly's cell phone reception is not good and he's been having computer problems with his brand new computer, so no Skype or email either. I do know he gets to wear civvies now, but that's about it. How about Galen?

Once it snows here in Lakewood, NY we're lucky if we see the grass before the end of April. We are on the receiving end of lake effect snow from Lake Eire.

Any updates on our sailors?

What are your thoughts about the 911 terrorist trial about to take plce in New York City? Has the Attorney General taken a stupid pill?

Hi Katynorth Part of the problem regarding knowledge of our government and it's policies is that many middle school kids do not even know the name of our leaders. Middle school is the level where kids are still impressionable. Last year we asked a...

Thanks for inviting me to join. I am a very proud navy mom who always respected the men and women in uniform but I must admit that when my son enlisted I became more aware of the commitment involved in a military career.

I was just talking today to Danielle about new members arriving and she said they are expecting a drummer and two trumpet players - is your son's friend a trumpet player? They just came back this week from their fall deployment so I've enjoyed catching up with her on Skype - watching her unpack and seeing the things she bought while she was out. Still hard to believe in the last year all the things she has seen and done. Usually the band will arrange for a sponsor for a new member coming in so they know what to expect and such so they'll be expecting him :) I was only in Norfolk a few times last year but it's beautiful - hopefully your son and his wife made it down to the beach to see the big King Neptune statue - it's a very pretty area. Hi, above the area where you type is a little camera, click it, then browse for the pic you want, click add. It will have a bunch of writing (html I think) then enter what you want to say about picture and post it. Hope that helps.

Hello, it's just a small graduation, takes about an hour - when we went there were probably about 70-100 people in the room and the musicians sat in chairs in front of us, standing when they were introduced and given their certificate from the School of Music. The ceremony took about an hour and then they all lined up in the hallway for us to congratulate them. They all looked nice in their dress uniforms. After the ceremony Danielle was free to go so we spent one more day at Norfolk with her and we left early the next morning to head to MI for the 3 weeks she had on leave before heading to Japan. There is a nice beach in Norfolk with the big King Neptune statue. Miles of boardwalk to walk along. At the graduation they had a program printed out with the list of the graduates and any honors, plus which band they were heading too. Neat to see that they have spent 3-6 months together and where all they are heading. Danielle keeps in touch with a few of them through facebook.

I sing, I played clarinet back in the day during middle school for 3 yrs so that was my foundation for music. I've sung for about 6 years. I did singing through high school and did one year of college and studied with a voice teacher. Currently I'm not privately seeing a vocal coach. I'm starting to however pull up music from the audtion lists. My first main focus though is getting in shape. Can't get into the Navy at all if I'm not within weight and physical fitness requirements, so that's the big hurdle I face right now. I'm 170lbs and need to be 149lbs for 5'2", and all the physical fitness req's.

It is something isn't it? Is Galen's wife going to head right to Norfolk or wait until he is settled? Danielle enjoyed the School of Music - for those with the college background in music, most of it is review and a lot of practice. He'll probably be able to advance through the course and be finished with it sooner. Sometimes if the band he is assigned to isn't ready for him, they will have them perform with the Norfolk band. We went to the graduation at the School of Music too. The school covers Navy, Marine and Army band members so on graduation day, they represent all three branches.

Hi Betty! Thanks for the add! I've been on N4M for about a month, my husband graduated Oct 2 and is currently in school at Great Lakes. I've been thinking about auditioning for the music program. I went to college for a year and discontinued my education, I overworked myself during high school and didn't give myself a chance to breathe. I've always wanted to do music, my husband often asks me why I want to do it in the Navy because there might not be a position out in the real world for it...but I want to do it because I think it's an awesome way of using myself to do great things for my country, and doing something I love while I'm at it. Biggest obstacle I have to face is getting in shape. I'm starting to run and it's kicking my butt however I'm not giving up on it. Any piece of advice that you or your son could give to me will be greatly appreciated!

I hope you are enjoying your time with your new sailor :) Good luck to him as a Navy musician - maybe some day he and Danielle will be in the same band :)
