Advice Needed..Daughter left for basic on 5-26-09

Hello everyone. Forgive me if this seems a bit rough but this blogging is new to me. I just joined the site a few weeks ago. My daughter just left for basic on 5-26-09. I had the 30 second phone call and she sounded horrified!!! I cried the moment we said goodbye at the swearing in ceremony. I left a huge portion of my heart there. I'm sure there are so many more that know that feeling. I'm hoping to get support and information here that will help me understand what she is going through. All she… Continue

Hey, how are you? I'm trying to plan a meet, greet, & eat with as many Navy moms in eastern NC. Please respond if you're interested in getting together with other ENC moms sometime in the month or so. Thanks, Tammy

Sherri, thanks for responding back. It is about five of us in the area. Isn't that awesome? My sailor is an AO and he did attend A-school in Pensicola. He really enjoyed it there. Hope your daughter enjoys it as well. My son is stationed in Norfolk although he is currently deployed for seven months. Anyway stay in contact. Hopefully, we can plan a meet and greet for the moms in this area soon.

Hi NavymominNC, I saw your post in another group about sending gum, etc. to your daughter. I'm not sure about that, however, I asked alot (and I do mean alot) of questions and a dear woman named Jacqueline Manning has answered many of them. I believe she has had three in military service so is familiar with alot of things. If you type her name in the search box at the top of the page you should get her page if you would like to ask her about the gum. I would want you to be sure before sending something that may get your daughter in trouble. Seems harmless to us, but who knows. I hope you don't mind me making this suggestion. Take care.

Happy day! Happy day! So glad you got to talk to your baby. We haven't received any calls in two weeks and no letters at all. I have only found one other mom on here in my cousins div 256. Someone said another div on ship 03 was punished last week and another may not graduate on time. I hope things turn around and they all get back on schedule. I will keep your daughter and all the others in my thoughts as it sounds like things got a little tough this week. Take care.

Hey, my cousin said his ship is Hopper and division 256. I am trying to figure on the ship number and street address so I can send because his form letter didn't include these two pieces? Did yours? By the way, we're right down the road - sorta - Durham ;) Hope you get a call soon!

They do keep our babies busy-the trick to it -stay busy yourself.the first week they help our kids get refocused. You will get a box of the things that she can't keep with her-They have limited space. No Packages what so ever. When they do start writting you it will be on Sunday's. Start writing and hold them until you get the address. The weeks will go by fast. You will get the graduation information4-5 weeks in. When you see them just remember they have protocal to follow. My daughter has been on her first tour of duty a year on June 6th. She loves it-soaking in all that she can learn. She is a 3rd class Petty Officier. You need to be very supportive of your daughter. Make sure you take pictures every chance you get. When you go for graduation you will be so proud of her. Enjoy the adventure with her. I just can't imagine my daughter doing anything else. She is really enjoying it.You will get alot of support on this site. You will meet alot of great people. Make sure that you join your state group and go to the meet/greet lunchings. You really do get to make lots of new friends. I have meet moms that are with my daughter. My daughter has meet them and when my daughter makes a friend and that friends mom is on this site, I introduce myself to them and we have a lot of fun. We call each other-and really build up great friendships. remember be supportive for your daughter-positive thinking will help them greatly.

Hi Sherri,

Welcome to N4M. Congratulations on your daughter's acceptance to boot camp! I'm sure you are proud! You'll notice lots of great development in your child during and after b/c and she'll make new friends while there. BTW, you may want to check out the boot camp group on this site.
