Hi Nia, Have you heard from Mike since Christmas? I wrote to Chris and told him to try to find Mike. Itold him that Mike could hang around with us for the weekend. I'm renting a 4WD about the size of a Trailblazer so taking three sailors will not be a problem they should be comfortable to just get from one place to another. If they all want to we can head back to the motel at some point so they can just relax and talk about what boot camp has been like. I didn't know Mike's last name so I told Chris he'd just have to find a guy named Mike whose Mom is in Germany. I know it's not much for him to go on but maybe by some luck he will find Mike. Let me know what's going on! Happy New Year, Nia

They can write on Sundays while in bootcamp and we usually got our letters on Wednesdays. He always wrote at least one letter a week sometimes two. I sent him pictures of everyone which he absolutely loved..He got to come home for Christmas and brought with him this huge bundle of stuff--he pulled it out of his bag and said see all this this was my life-line while I was in bootcamp, its every letter I got while I was there..So write, write ,write....I wrote a letter everyday-they get mail every day except Sunday..Incase you haven't read on here anywhere-think carefully about sending musical cards as they have to "do" things for them..Nate and his whole division had to do push-ups,sit-ups etc. for each one that anyone in the division got..some of the guys weren't to happy about it, but most of them were happy that all got mail and they were glad to do whatever they had do to do for it.

The weather has been awful for Aaron also!!! He's lived in the South all his life...so it's a shock to him, I am sure. He is still in Great Lakes taking some of his training until he can go to Pensacola. He did get to come home for Christmas, though. He's home until the 4th. Mark (husband/Aaron's Dad) checks the weather temp every morning and night to see what it is up there. Then, we will talk about how it must be so cold for Aaron (when he's there)...and usually feel sorry for him!!!

We are originally from Cherokee, NC (right across the mountain from Gatlinburg). I grew up 4 miles off of the Cherokee Indian Reservation and lived there until I was about 25. We moved to Brevard (right outside of Asheville) and owned a John Deere dealership there for 4 years, then moved to the Nashville area 10 years ago. I know Cades Cove very well!!! I haven't heard of Max Patch, though. It is a beautiful area and I miss the mountains every now and then...but I love Tennessee!!!

The ceremony is so wonderful!!! I will be praying that things will work out for you to get to attend!!! It is really special, that's for sure!!! Like I said, I will say a prayer for you!!! I do hope you will get to go!!!

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!!!

Nia, I can't help you as far as grad pack or any information from in the division unless I get info from Chris but I did send him a note and told him that I was not sure that you could make it for PIR. I asked him to find Mike if he can. If Chris has not already invited one of his buddies to hang out with us during the weekend, then I told him to invite Mike to go along with us. It would be cheaper for him than having to take a train or bus around the city and I believe we are going to go to the Sears Tower, the Navy Pier, and maybe the aquarium. If we get to do all that he will at least get to go with someone to do some fun stuff. We will see how their schedules work out. I'm sure Mike would rather be with you but if you can't make it we will make every effort to "adopt" him for the weekend. Good Luck and Merry Christmas!
