About me:
I am a brand new Navy mom and I am learning every day. My son is a musician and will go to the Navy School of Music in Norfolk, VA after PIR. I never dreamed it would be so hard during this boot camp. Not being able to contact him and know that he is ok is the worst thing ever! I can't wait until I get a phone call, although I know I will just cry the whole time. I also can't wait until PIR so I can see him in his uniform and again, I'm sure I will just cry the whole time! Seems like that's all I've done since he left September 3rd.
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
I have no experience but have been learning A LOT since he enlisted. I am very proud of my son but this first week of boot camp has been worse than I ever imagined.

Regarding seating at graduation, they advise that they will give let you have 4 guests, but in the informational letter/brochure there is a number to call to check on if you can bring more. They will tell you that they will try to get everyone in, and usually it is no problem because there are recruits that have no family come. The worst that would happen would be that those that couldn't make it in would be put in the Family Center and the recruit would come to you after the ceremony. So call the number and find out what you can. Any other questions feel free to ask on another group site of A School Moms as they have already attended. Hope this is of help.

I am going to use the one Pat sent on his letter until I get the form letter and then I will use that one. I think they will all get the mail eventually... just don't want him to think I am not writing. He knows i will/am but being there and not getting mail would be hard.

I have a love of music... just no talent!! Pat is self taught on the banjo and guitar and has an awesome voice. He got it from my side of the family... just not me. I was so bad in HS my director would NOT let me play in competition!! Still have very fond memories of that time: 36 ago!

Cool about the music school. I went to HS (years ago!!) with a guy who was in the Marine Corp Band... he loved it. What does your son play?

Hi There Okielady,

Tell me about your son.

My son's name is Galen. He is 28, married and left Pittsburgh for Boot Camp on August 13 so he is about halfway through.
He is a trumpet player who will be in a fleet band after a stint in the Navy school of music.
Hope to hear from you,
Betty
