Are there any groups of moms get togathers close by? Is there a mom who has allready gone through this, that can help me understand process of enlisting; signed contracts for specific jobs in Navy; how they decide difference between being sent to East coast versus West coast I hear there is big difference on where he is deployed to. Do they really get credit for navy time for attending school?

The sign up bonuses change a lot and very often. If the rate (job) he wants is filling up, there will be no bonus.

Sylvia,
I am not in El Paso, but El Paso is my hometown. My sailor went into the Navy April of 07 and I flew home to be with him as he processed. I graduated from Coronado high school and our sailor graduated from Montwood high school. My parents still live there. I have lived in Fort Worth for 9 years now, but I have never stopped missing El Paso. If I could I would move back in a heartbeat. If you plan a get-together, I will try to fly home to attend. I have requested you on my friends list. God Bless your sailor. Kate

Hi i thought i had already posted comments. Don'[t know where they went. Well here goes again.

He says he is told he can get a signed contract with Navy to enter in seals program and get credit for being in Navy while attending school. From there he wants to move on to linguistics. How long are they on boat out of six months at sea? What is ratio? Because he believes he is going to be exploring all kinds of different countries and meeting all kinds of people. I am afraid he will waste four years only to come back and still have to go to college for four yrs. I' ve met people who go to Navy thinking that upon arrival they are gonna have thousands of job offers thrown their way. only to find they come home to minimum wage jobs. You can see their frustation and out of no other choice they reinlist again. Please if one of you moms out there can help me understand a little better how this works please feel free to HELP!
