About me:
I am the mother of 4 children and have been married for 19 years. I am currently in the 3rd year of College for my (RN). My son has just recently graduated from boot camp and is in the process of being transferred to Connecticut (we think). We are from Hicksville,Ohio- Yes thats the Name- and I am really having a hard time with this whole Navy thing. I am very proud of my son, but he and his wife just found out that they are expecting a baby Jan 3rd and now they wont be around for us to love and enjoy them. I am very sad and will miss them terribly.
I am here to support or represent my:

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
So far not alot, just that they change what they have told him in the beginning, but I have also always heard that the Navy takes care of their people and are very good to them.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

RED CARPET INN

If anyone is heading to Great Lakes, ILL for graduation- DO NOT , I SAY- DO NOT STAY at the RED CARPET INN. It was the most discusting Hotel I have ever stayed in. Our feet were BLACK when we took showers, the water turned black because of our feet! GROSS! We couldnt breath at night due to probably mold of some kind. Our neighbors said their feet were also black. The Beds were at least 30 Years old and hurt our backs, the service was very unfriendly in every way. Just wanted to save you the mone… Continue

Is your son in Groton?? I'm assuming he's going for sub training?? If so, look for the Groton or Sub group. Congrats on choosing a career in nursing, come join our group, Navy Nurse Mom's. Pat

Hi Tena,
I'm not sure exactly what will be instore for your son in Conn. My sailor is in Hawaii. Is your son on a sub or surface ship? I know what you mean by having your first grandchild and not being there like you'd like to be. My husband and I have a granddaughter that turned 4 in March. It has been tough not to be there as she grows. We miss her terribly. We have "little visits" on the web cam. Be sure to invest in a good web cam so you can have "little visits". I know it's not the same as being there, but I'm so thankful for our "little visits". We've become pretty creatative with our visits. We play go fish, read stories, tell jokes and rock out. LOL! I was in your shoes, at one time. Very sad and didn't like the distance. We just found a way to embrace it and be there.....along came the web cam! Welcome to N4M! You will meet so many people the share the same feeings you have. :)

Thanks Tena, you just might be hearing from me. My son is in BC and hopes to graduate Aug, 28th. We're staying at a Holiday Inn Express. They gave us a Navy Grad rate & thought it was a good price. Hopefully we'll get to spend the weekend with him, not sure what we'll do. Was thinking he might like to do a relaxing weekend..... maybe movie? Would appreciate any suggestions you have!

ok i looked it up. Had to find out if you were near. Heck no. Grafton is just southwest of Cleveland. I did change my res. to the Ramada. The pool will keep the teens from being bored I think. lol

I'm going to have to look up Hicksville in where it is from Grafton, Ohio. Sounds familiar, unless i'm thinking Hinkley.
