On His Way

Since the blog area is more about putting down your thoughts her are mine.

My son left for MEPS in Spokane, Washington this morning.  At the same time we are expecting a big winter storm.  We live 3 hrs south of Spokane.  I decided yesterday that we wouldn't be going to see the swearing in and I feel really bad about it.  It better dump alot of snow or I'll be mad!

Yesterday we decided to have a family day where we all hung out and did what he wanted to do.  Good thing it was…

I didn't fall apart!!!

I took the day off...we went to IHOP for breakfast then ran some errands.  He came home and rested, cleaned his room (YAY), and played video games for about an hour.  The plan was for the recruiter to pick him up at 2 pm.  So, I was doing whatever I could to keep my mind off of it.  At 1:55, I told him to come say goodbye to his grandma and sister...and he informed me that the recruiter was coming at 2:45 now.  Argh...all of that mental preparation was wasted.  I wanted to hover over him for…

new Navy mom

I am a new Navy mom as of Jan 9th. Reading the posts of other mom's have made me feel better. I have had mixed emotions about my son going to the Navy. I am extremely proud of him but I miss him terribly. He is my only one so it has been very hard to let go. We are very close so it has been hard not seeing and talking to him on a daily basis. I do support him all the way. I can't wait to get to talk to him.

He leaves for bootcamp tomorrow

My son was pursuing a career with the Coast Guard...but things were moving very slowly and one day last summer a Navy recruiter called him.  My son told him he wasn't interested, but the recruiter asked to speak with a parent.  (Smart guy, right?)  After speaking with the recruiter...I suggested that we at least meet with him.  I remember that night, him researching the Navy on our computer...and getting very excited about the prospect of Navy Seals. (He quickly got over the Coast Guard!)…

“I’m gonna be a NUKE!!!!”

Was the voice mail message left to me from my step son on Tuesday, January 11th. Oh how I hated that I missed that call, but the voice mail he left me made my heart smile. “Ms. Paulie, I passed my test! I’m gonna be a NUKE” my step son excitingly yells into my voice mail. “Call me back, I might miss your call I’m going to be helping my grandparents. I love you Ms. Paulie! THANK YOU for everything you’ve done for me!” (A voice mail message I will not delete from my…

From experienced graduate moms,  what is the best method?  Using hotel shuttles getting to and from the base for graduation or driving your car???  And what about the dress for the graduation?

Graduation and extras

Need some advice.  Just heard from my son and I should be overjoyed for the third time in nine weeks but his answer made me sad.  His one sister is excluded on the graduation invite list because I had one too many children!!  Is there a way to get her to graduation?  Do I take her to Chicago and to the base for graduation hoping there is a way to get her to the graduation???  Or do I take her to Chicago and have her wait in the hotel so she can see her brother for the period after graduation…

Letting him go was the hardest thing I have ever done!

I am Caitlyn, im 18 years old.My fiance and I have been together for 3 years now Were getting married in June of 2012.  He left for bootcamp Thursday, January 5th 2012, he went to Great Lakes Illinois. We are very close and it was hard to see him go, it was even harder when you can't even say goodbye. I know this is not goodbye forever... but it seems like its been years since I talked to him last. I still have not gotten a letter from him, but I have been writing him everyday! I hope once…

One Week

It has been one week since my daughter left. I woke up this morning so very sad. I can't believe how much I miss her. She has lived away from home for several years and the phone has become our "connection": random texts, calls, and pictures messages. Now.... there is nothing. Not even on FB. I know this too shall pass, just seems so strange.

I am so proud of the decision she made, the research she did, and her sacrifices. I just..... worry. I sent her a letter packet yesterday.…

He Did It!

After many episodes of arguing, poking, prodding and re-testing, the studying has paid off. Today Thadeus made sure I was the first person he told that he had passed the Nuke School Entrance Exam.

Thad left this morning for MEPS to take his exam. This wasn't his first attempt to qualify and he knew he was running out of opportunities to reach his goal. He would tell his friends; "My whole entire future is in the hands of this one exam." While that is a bit of a teenage…

Graduation January 20

Does anyone know how I can access an extra ticket for graduation.  My son will receive 4 and would really need 5.  I keep checking with him but I feel he doesn't want to be too aggressive because he doesn't want any set backs.
