Swearing In and Sending Forth

Growing up with a mom who celebrated every birthday, milestone, and accomplishment, I learned at an early age that no feat was too large or small to go un-noticed. Mom taught me to enjoy the big and little things in life. And I liked it! As a mother of four, God blessed me with many opportunities to commemorate these passages of life also.

So when the time drew near for “future sailor Tetrick” to head off to her Navy basic training, this mom needed to have a “sending forth”,…

Welcome to a new Chapter... or is this a whole new book?

Change is inevitable. Things around us constantly change. Our surroundings, our situations and our friends, at some point change.  No matter how minuscule these changes may be, they will have an effect on how we handle certain situations, how we perceive things in the world and how much respect, love or anger we have. Change many not effect us right away, nonetheless it does and will effect us over time.…

Scared& Excited all at the same time!

I got my first letter on Thursday Jan. 26th. He wrote me a 3 page letter saying how he does not like bootcamp, but he is sticking it out for us. I cried like a little baby, i know i only have a a little over a month left until I get to see him. Sometimes I wonder if this is going to be a good thing or not, i have been home in VA for 18 years with my parents and 4 brothers, and extended family. I am really scared to move away from home, with just Jared & I. I dont know what to expect. I…

The Time Has Come

It seems unreal. The time for Greg to ship out to boot camp is here. Although his girlfriend is more upset since it will interfere with cupid day. The household seems on edge and yet supportive of what is about to come. The hardest of course is my baby not being my baby...he has been evolving in front of my eyes these 7 months of DEP.

Divine intervention or fun video game

I am almost to my sons PIR so I have been reminicing on how we got here.  My son has always had it easy in school.  A's without trying but he is a little on the lazy side.  He could not decide what he wanted to do after graduation so he did not apply for scholarships, stating he would go to community college while he figured it out and we would save money.  After oe year of commumity college and working part time jobs he decided he was, " bored to death and still did not know what to do with…

Bootcamp Graduation.....

WOW, in TWO days, my son will be graduating from bootcamp! I honestly didn't think I would make it! I KNEW my son would! (I raised him! he can do ANYTHING!) I remember that night he left! It felt JUST LIKE his FIRST day of kindergarten! And somehow, I made it through THAT too! And here I am awaiting A school, and the "freedom" that brings!

For the last 20 years, I…

February 3, 2012 Graduation

I'm really new to this, but can anyone let me know what is allowed and what isn't for purposes of my Son's graduation from Boot Camp on this upcoming February 3, 2012.  To be more clear, his birthday happens to be 2 days after and I want to know if I can bring a couple of gifts for him to take with.  He will be going straight to his 5 weeks of training from there that day.  Also, how much time do you have with them that day?  Believe he leaves 8PM that day.  Can he go off-base at any time…

3 PIR Meet & Greets?

I noticed in the Events, that there are now 3 different Meet & Greets for PIR.  Ramada, Sarge's and Flanagans.  I really hate to see this competition and fracturing of the group.  Sarge's was just getting started as an alternative to Ramada when my Sailor PIR'd in November.  I think I actually missed out because I thought it was important that I make both of them.  I think I was the only one that did.  Hard to leave Ramada in time to go to Sarge's and hard to arrive at Sarge's after that…
