Having a hard time

My son is in his 4th week of boot camp and I never imagine how hard it can be. He has a girlfriend who he has dated for 2 years, She no longer wants to be with him, she has not written to him the first 3 weeks. His first phone call home was heart breaking. At the time of his call we did not know of her plans until we heard it from her roommate. I have to keep him focused and prolong the hurt until she tells him or we do and his next phone call. I am struggling. We have every one we can think of… Continue

A Letter to my Son on his Journey

Dear Chris,

It seems like yesterday that my days began watching you toddle down the stairs, clutching your blanket and twisting your curls. Arriving at the bottom of the stairs you would rub the sleep from your eyes and wrap your arms around my waist. I would hoist you up to my hip and carry you into the kitchen. A brand new day had begun and we would face it together.. the two of us. I remember building snowmen and sledding down Grammy's back yard with you. Grampy pulling you and… Continue

Daughter is leaving next week for Basic!

My daughter is leaving next week for Great Lakes for Basic! I am so very proud of her but at the same time I am so scared. I know she can do everything she sets her mind to but the mom in me will worry. I know that God will be with her and protect her. I am a wreck and I am finding it hard to let her go. I want to buy a plane ticket for myself and be with her the whole way and I know I can't. I love her so much and miss her already!

First i would like to thank you all for excepting me in your family Wow this has already been a ride! She arrived @ MEPS on Monday for her re-swaring in ceremony and the office was closed due to excessive snow in Memphis. So on Tuesday i headed out again to Memphis which is 90 miles away (in the sleet & snow) as i arrived she calls to tell me her flight has been cancelled due to excessive snow in Chicago. But they still swore her in and got everything ready for her to leave this morning.…

Can I Bill the US NAVY for taking my SHOVEL away??

It is snowing at Great Lakes. Lake effect snow. Well, that will be interesting for a lot of recruits from the warmer sun covered spots of the country! Guess what? It is snowing here in New England as well! I must confess my frustration at signing over my shoveling service to the Navy! There is still snow on my deck from the last real snowfall here in Connecticut. I suppose it would've been wise to invest in a powered snow blower. Ours did not survive last winter.… Continue

She told me that they had to be up by 12:00 am today and they had been at the airport since around 3 am or so!! Wow. She is excited and a little nervous about her next step. I told her it was a piece of cake from what she has been through. She laughed and agreed. She said her life is going the way it is supposed to. She also thanked me for being so hard on her when she was younger.… Continue
