The BOX

I came home from work today like any other day...went through the garage door, went out the front door to let the dog out and there it sat! On my step....the BOX.....I picked it up, looked at it, seen where it was from...turned it upside down, recognized the penmanship on the bottom of the box...my son's handwriting....his name on the box....OMG do i open it? Can I do it? I sat down on the porch swing and looked at it...will it smell like him? Will it make me cry? Will I be any use the rest of… Continue

NOW THE WAIT.....

Well, he's been gone for 69 hours, which is almost 3 days lol I was ok yesterday but today I'm not so sure yet. I know he's ok but am I? He called when the plane landed around 8 pm. He forgot the weather was so different from here to there (Louisiana to Great Lakes) and got off the plane in shorts! The temp when he left was in the 70s and when he landed it was in the 20's lol. MY POOR BABY!! Well, anyway, he's not a baby anymore and I am learning this. I have come to the conclusion he will… Continue

Got my package yesterday

Was surprised to see Fed Ex at my door.  I thought they could donate their clothing but it all came back home.  Rolled into a ball with his phone and Ipod in this shoes....later got the form from the Navy that they fill out to give their graduation date and list of invitees as well as a short note at the bottom from my son....

Anything he said was well worth seeing his writing and knowing he was fine.....

MY FIRST BIRD LEAVES THE NEST

Yesterday, I experienced a new level of motherhood. My first born child, my pride and joy, left the nest for boot camp. I knew this day would come, but never in my imagination did i think so soon. It seems like he was born yesterday, he began to walk and talk and loved his momma so much! As he's grown into the fine you man he is, he has become more than my son, but an individual that I'm very close to and proud to call my friend as well. It was very hard to let him go, but I have learned that… Continue

He's my Popeye and I am his Olive Oyl

I have my own Popeye the sailor man.

Sadly, he hates spinach though. I'm working on it. So far, I've gotten him to eat yellow squash and zucchini, and even sushi. But no spinach, and probably never spinach.…

New Navy Mom

My son entered OCS in Rhoade Island yesterday.  The very brief, 15 sec phone call he made last night did nothing to calm my worries.  Matthew has always dreamed of being a pilot for the Navy, and last fall he was selected.  I am very proud of him for his decision to join the Navy...I have always been his biggest fan.  If anyone knows anything about OCS, please let me know.  I do know it is very intense, and extremely difficult.  I would just like to hear from someone who has been in my shoes… Continue

My son was giving verbal orders to a aircraft carrier, The Carl Visson.  But he is now waiting for a hard copy order. Does anyone no how long that takes, before he knows when he lives. He was told this almost 2 months ago. I am so nervous that he is now going somewhere on a ship. This has been his dream, his dad was in Vietnam & was on a aircraft carrier, so he is happy to get the same. But you know how I feel, it just not knowing where he is heading to. Continue

Introduction

Hello All

My boyfriend is currently on deployment. This is my first deployment but he has been in the Navy for 12 years. I am having a difficult time dealing with him being away and missing so much of what is happening her at home. We are fortunate enough to have a limited interenet connection so that we can talk once a week and I try to send packages when I can. We were only dating 2.5 months before he had to leave and it is hard. I am a full time college student so I try to stay…

MISSING MY SON

My son left January 18 for BC, what an emotional day that was and also the days working up to that day, and OMG!!! The days since..just sit here writing letters to him and tear up just thinking about him, his voice, laugh and everything about him.  What a wonderful boy he is and next time I see him he will be a young man.  I know he made the right decision to join the Navy and I am very proud of him....just feel an emptiness now.  Received the call from him that he made it there (GL) at…

Life goes on....

I still miss my SR terribly, but life goes on in our household! It's getting easier for my 10 yr old, knowing that he will see his big brother in March, AND he is now a big brother himself, so that helps as well.  I worry that it will be difficult all over again when we have to leave our son back in Illinois to go home!  My husband has been a big help, but I know deep down he still misses him just as much!  I miss his laugh, it was so contagious! His smile lit up the room!  He is such a…

Saying Goodbye to my Son as he leaves for Bootcamp

I hugged my "little boy" goodbye

He hugged me back and said, "Mom, don't cry."

I couldn't bare to walk away

I didn't let myself look back that day

His car was still parked in the drive at home

In his room were his keys and treasured cell phone

There sat his abandoned x-box and video games

Without him here nothing will be the same

No yelling for him to turn the "music" down

His hundreds of CD's are just sitting…
