thanks a lot...

Fear is a part of the parenting experience.

From the first moment we hold our newborns

and ever after we have some level of concern

about our children's well-being.

Worry is fear's troublesome voice that whispers

in our ears and paints ugly pictures of what might be.

My son's Navy journey thus far has stirred this nagging voice.

Taking care of Sailor's cell phone

Hey there ladies!

I need some advice - I contacted at&t to put a military suspense on my Sailor's cell plan, they said they are happy to do this, I "simply" need to fax a copy of his orders in to them....  huh?  How in the world do I get a copy of his orders?  I thought these were private for OPSEC reasons?

Anyone else had to deal with this - what did you do?

Thanks all!

Consignee needed in Japan

Hello,

My name is Stace Pagel.  I am the Cubmaster of Pack 445 in Friendswood, TX, USA.  We have gotten together 4 cubic meters of humanitarian items for shipment to Japan.  We have a way to get it there (currently by ship, as that's all we can afford).  The problem is, we cannot find a consignee (somone to sign for a distribute our freight).

Items include coats, blankets, water, baby clothing, clildren's clothing adult clothing, sanitary items, (napkins,…

Got the Call

Well the call came in from him around 2230 EDT.  He sounded almost as if he was reading from a script.  Probably just nerves.  It was great to hear his voice and tell him I love him.  He says I should be getting another call in about 3 weeks.

Boot Camp is in our past, Norfolk is in our future!

It's been so long since I've been on this site! My husband graduated boot camp 2/11/11 and was shipped off to Pensacola for A School! He graduated and is now home until April 1st, then it's off to Norfolk for him! I'm so happy to have boot camp in our past. There were some days I believe I would NEVER make it through! Graduation was definitely a day of happiness because I was seeing my SAILOR for the first time in 2 months and he was all dressed up in his "Dress Blues" :)

I'm…

Here we go again!

Well, its round two for deployment for my son and not thrilled about the destination but proud that my son is in the Navy and doing a job to promote a safer world.  I am sad since I haven't seen him for quite  awhile and even sadder for his bride that he will be leaving behind.  Military life is not easy for sure, but as I watch my son grow and mature through his experiences I am proud and assured that the people who serve our country are the most incredible people of all.

While he is…

8 days and counting!!!!

Well, the day is finally close. My daughter is leaving for Boot Camp in 8 days!   I'm not nervous or sad yet, I'm very proud.  I suppose sadness will hit me next Tuesday as I am watching her swear in.   I'm nervous for her though because she is very naive' and I don't know if she really knows what to expect.  She is so excited though, so I am excited for her.

Is there anyone else out there whose child is leaving for Boot Camp on 4/5/11?

Take…

phases in A-school

Hi everyone!

I was wondering about the phases in a-school, right now my boyfriend is at the Great Lakes, training for corpsman. He is getting into his third week and is still in phase 1. We are trying to make plans for me to go out there and visit him for a weekend. He said I will not be able to until he is in phase 2. When will he earn phase 2? And what kind of liberty will he have during phase two?

Thank you :)

Deployment!!!

Well its been a very long time since posting on here! My son is soon to deploy to the middle east and I am not ready!!! My heart is breaking and I don't know how to deal with this impending year!! The worse part is he is in training and we understood he would get a week leave between training and deployment....however we have since learned he may not get any leave at all! That means it will be over a year til I see him again!!! How can this be?? Why would the military not want a young man to… Continue

Proud Navy Mom

So let me start this by saying I don't think I'm really very superstitious.

At the Navy Exchange is a wonderfule Proud Navy Mom decal I've been eyeing for months now BUT I refuse to buy it Yet!  I actually feel like I might be jinxing my son if I buy it and actually put it on my car now.  So here's the plan.  When he leaves for boot camp I'll purchase the decal.  When he calls after Battle 21 I'll put it on the car!  Anyone else got their Proud Navy Mom decals yet?

Prepaid phone cards

Does anybody have a recommendation on a good phone card I can purchase and mail to my son.  He's in Great Lakes and I want to make sure he's got a good phone card to use, that doesn't have all those hidden fees, etc.

Day 16 - first "real" letters received

YAY!!! I received letters from my son today!  Was great to hear from him & he writes exactly like he speaks. I could tell he is doing awesome.  He was really good with the detail, which I must say surprised me considering the fact that I don't think he's ever written a letter.  Back when we were at the recruiters office they had several letters written to them from SRs in a book & I was reading them - I made a comment how nice the stationary was & I better get a letter from him… Continue

the power of thoughts...

I find myself fighting doubts, wondering if we have left a "T" uncrossed,
an "I" undotted as my son's boot camp departure inches nearer.
You see, today's Navy is over-manned.
Recruits find themselves under the microscope, as the Navy
can well afford to accept only the best.
Even with an …
