My son just joined the Navy! He leaves for BC on Oct. 27, 2010 from Arizona. I am beaming with pride one minute,,,,and the next,,, I'm worried sick. It's so nice to see every other Mom has gone through the same mixed emotions that I've been experiencing for the past several weeks. I'm looking forward to watching him grow into the man he wants to be! Continue

Sadly, it seems that my blog posts are always poignant and I truly look forward to the day (most likely that will be May 21, 2010) when I can post something joyous and filled with excitement. In the meantime I'm mentally posting a little ad in the Classifieds (if there is such a thing) on these boards. It reads:

I am a new Navy Mom who's only fear was not having enough knowledge. I can honestly now say "Thank You" to each and every N4M for your advise, experience, thoughts and concerns.

I have only been on this site a fews days and just from browsing I have seen days, months, years of comforting support and I am blessed to have found this site at the begining of our new life as a Navy family.

My son enters Great Lakes Boot Camp on November 16, 2010. He has been assinged…

Worried.

My sailor leaves for boot camp in a little less than 5 months, and I am so worried about/for him. Things in both our families have gotten difficult, so we've learned to lean on each other, but I'm scared that in boot camp he'll just learn to lock away his emotions and not want to deal with anything when he gets back. I love him too much and already have one of his best friends hating me. This sounds so cliche, and unlike me, but he's been really great about looking after me, and I'm just… Continue

ADMIRAL BEAR

5am-My cell phone rings. Who can it be at this hour? Not a good thing having your phone ring at that hour when neither of your kids are home in their beds. Tad -----, a co-worker. What the heck does he want at this hour on Saturday morning. I hit the "Ignore" button and fell back to sleep. Yes I take my job just that seriously.

6:30am-Phone rings again. Bloody heck! By now I'm enjoying coffee with my… Continue

My sone left for basic on April 14th

My son was sworn in on April 14th and was off to boot camp. It was the hardest thing to get the phone call that night. It seemed so inpersonable but atleast I knew that he was there and alright. I just cannot quit thinking of him. He is my life, my future and my everything. I am so proud that he has made this decision and I stand behind him a 100%. Thanks to everyoone for the thoughts and prayers. Is there anyone else out there that had a son or daughter that left for boot camp on April 14th?… Continue

3 weeks

Wednesday was the three week mark and the feeling this week is completely different than last week. I've now received two letters from Perry and honestly, hearing from him and hearing what he's going through makes all the difference. A lot of my worry and sadness had to do with the fear of the unknown. Being a pretty typical female I was SURE I could feel him being miserable. hahaha. Well I was wrong. He sounds fantastic. Not a single complaint and it sounds like he's coming into his own and… Continue

This gave me chills!

SHOCKED!

I was shocked, confused, bewildered

As I entered Heaven's door,

Not by the beauty of it all,

Nor the lights or its decor.

But it was the folks in Heaven

Who made me sputter and gasp--

The thieves, the liars, the sinners,

The alcoholics and the trash.

There stood the kid from seventh

grade

Who swiped my lunch money twice.

Next to him was my old neighbor

Who never said anything nice.

Courage and Achievement - Guillaume Apollinaire

“Come to the edge.”
“We can’t. We’re afraid.”
“Come to the edge.”
“We can’t. We will fall!”
“Come to the edge.”
And they came.
And he pushed them.
And they flew.

What is 15 Seconds

Well 15 seconds does mean a lot today. I got up this morning expecting a phone call from my daughter from Boot Camp. I lost 15 seconds not thinking nothing of it myself today. But never knew 15 seconds would mean so much. My daughter ran her PFA today. She had to call to say i failed it mom and told me she missed it by 15 seconds. So upset but trying to be strong. Said she may get a chance tomorrow to try one last time. That was around lunch. Then called tonight and had to read something to me.… Continue
