A poem - Standing guard from the East to the West

They lay this newborn in my hands

Who could have known he’d someday protect this great land

Memories cascade of when he was my baby

Today my son stands tall in the United States Navy

A parent plants seeds, morals, spirit and love

Their child takes flight on the…

Day 5 Got the box

So, my son left on the 19th, and I was a mess for several days. It is getting easier, but I was dreading the box. It arrived today, but it was a neutral experience for me. I think that is because I had an intense reaction to an unexpected situation earlier. I had gone for a major grocery run, as I still have 3 other kids plus husband at home, and brought all the bags in to start putting things away. I started to clean and rearrange the fridge as I usually do to put the oldest stuff towards…

It's official! Matt is a sailor!

Just spent an hour on the phone with my new sailor!  Yippee!  He sounded exhausted and excited all at the same time.  Said that Div 924 flags and drumline will take official PIR pic at 730am prior to PIR so if you're in the stands early you may get a first glimpse of your child.

Asked for cell phone and boxers!  Who knew that underwear would rank right up there with cell technology.  :)

Also said that Captain's cup was awesome and that because they won Captain's cup, they have…

Sending letters back home

Does anyone know if we can send our SR's a priority envelope, inside of a regular envelope, so they can send letters back home? If not, how can we go about getting the letters sent to them, back home, so they don't have to keep up with them?

Oh how the time flies by....

We celebrated my son's  18th birthday today.  He is my youngest child and leaving for BC on July 2nd. I have been feeling very nostalgic today, thinking back on the day I found out I was pregnant (yes, he was an oops! but what a wonderful Oops!!) and of course the night he was born. First day of school, first girlfreind, first heartbreak and the day he told me he wanted to serve his country.  He has always talked of making a difference and he knows that the Navy will offer him the kind of…

4 days since Son left

Well today is day 4 and it is getting a little easier. I have managed to stay busy and work has been very busy (which is very good). We had a client appreciation on Saturday and I had several client ask how my son was doing and if he got off okay. It was nice to brag on him some. Then we went to dinner with some really good friends and were able to catch up on the kids. I have been friends with this woman since 7th grade, almost 22 years ago and both of our kids went to the same school but…

Mom's in San Diego needed to greet single sailors for Essex homecoming

The USS Essex is returning to San Diego some time in the May, after being stationed in Japan for the last 12 years. The sailors left on the USS Bonhomme Richard February 14th 2012, to swap hulls. The Essex will be leaving again for another deployment shortly there after. Because of the quick turn around several sailor are returning to an empty home due to their spouses return to their home support for the duration of the 2 deployments. We are looking for mom's with base access to come to the…

Almost a year from now...

So it's been a while since I've been on here and since he broke up with me. Over the summer of last year we still talked. Maybe it was because we were so use to seeing and talking to each other everyday til he left for the Navy and then when he broke up with me it seemed impossible that we couldn't go through a day without texting each other. Which made it extremely hard for me, if I had to get over him...even though I didn't want to. Anyways, it's almost been a year since he did...but…

Nearing the end of boot camp and the beginning of life as a Navy mom

Hard to believe that almost 8 weeks ago I joined this site a rather sad mama missing my son terribly and today I wait in anticipation for the "I'm a sailor" call.

First and foremost, thank you to all the 'seasoned' moms that post to this site regulary and offered me much guidance along the way.  I remember my first fews days with my 'woe is me' mindset and today I couldn't be farther from that place.  I have come to understand and admire the Navy community and count myself both…

Ok I get it now

I  have sounded like a weepy, overprotective and resentful Mom the last few posts I've opened up on. Now I'm all the way to acceptance of the situation. This is what my son signed up for, this is what he wanted. Waited 7 months for it to get here, worked hard to lose the extra pounds to get in. He's not my baby anymore, he's on his way to becoming the man he wants to be.He is gonna be fine. This is good for him. I've been too soft all these years. This is the real world and he's gonna learn…
