Fighting the fear

So it's almost 2 weeks since he left home and started this journey we are all on with him. I didn't sleep much the first week but the fatigue finally won out and I'm sleeping all night now. I am having a hard time focusing while at work though. I find myself sitting in a meeting sneaking a peek at all your posts on my cell phone - absorbing everything you ladies say. I worry about getting a call that something has gone wrong - like the mom who's son has shin splints or the young man who is… Continue

Day 7

Jace's sister had her baby. :)  So Jace's Dad called emergency services some how to let him know. Well that got him a quick call. He said that he was very emotional. He had calmed down at the end of the call and told his Dad there were only  two processing days left.

I'm not sure how I feel at this point. I want to go hug him and tell…

Week One and "The Box"

A week ago today, we took our SR down to the office and said goodbye. I can't believe it's been a week now. Maybe time will go faster than I thought it would.

We had a family camp event to go to the next day. Although I did miss him not being there, it was a nice distraction for me. There was a vendor out at the venue that had Bacon Lemonade, Shark on a stick and Alligator. My SR would be the first one to jump up and say "Challenge accepted.. I'll eat that.." He is never afraid to be…

My son leaves next Monday April 21st. Had a wonderful Anchor Aweigh party this weekend with family. This has been a 10 month journey to finally be happening is surreal. I could not be prouder of my sons decision. My heart aches with the thought of him leaving. Not telling him to turn down the music or pick up your clothes etc Life will be different but that's ok. What a wonderful website this is to support moms on this journey. Hope I can hold it together next week. I told him no good byes only… Continue

RDCs

Skooter64 posted:

"And no, my son didn't love his RDCs. It'll be interesting to see how he feels about them after he has been in the Navy for a while. I bet he'll figure out that they have done him a great service."

Or not.

My daughter had an RDC who had been particularly hard on her, pushing her to a total meltdown and laughing about it. Years later the former RDC wanted to "friend' her on Facebook . It didn't happen. The emotional scarring was still too…

Home from PIR

My husband and I just got home from PIR. It went by so fast!

Friday after lunch, we just walked around a mall near the base. Then I found a park with an old fort on Lake Michigan: Fort Sheridan, Moraine, IL.  You can park and walk along the beach. It was quiet, but windy, of course. Then dinner and back to the base.

Today, his flight to A school was later in the evening, so we picked him up at the airport and took him to our hotel for a hot shower and a nap.

He's very…

Boot camp for him, no eating out for me. :-/

Day 2 of boot camp for Jace and no eating out plus exercise daily for me.  We all know Boot camp is not easy or we assume it isn't.  Well not eating out is not easy for this Mom. I would eat out twice a day at least 3 times a week and once a day almost every day. Good lord, now that I say it, it sounds absurd.

So I told my son I will not go out to eat for the next 8 weeks and I will exercise…

Letting go

I am so thankful I found this site. After I got accepted this morning, I was contacted by a member on chat. We chatted about various things for almost 2 1/2 hours. It was really what I needed ! She helped me in so many ways I can't even describe it.

We took our first born boy down to the office on Monday. Said tearful goodbyes and left. I was ok for a while when we got home, but I felt really down. This day was set a long time ago. For months, it seemed so far away to us. Then it…

Philly (my son), graduated bootcamp on April 4th. He is now in SC in the Nuke school. I lost my other son in Nov. of last year. Phillip left in Feb. for boot camp. I went nuts!!! His father & I got to spend the day with him after grad. until our train left. I found him in his troop, my heart fell. I was so proud so him. I realize now my baby is a man! At night, I really miss my boys. Now, I Philly is only a phone call away. It's nice being able to talk to him after work. I'm doing a lot…

Hi all, I'm new at this, not sure I'm doing this right so be patient with me, my son left for boot camp on March 18, my first born,, and its been hard. only received one letter so far. The handwriting didn't look like his, all cap letters and neat, has anyone received a letter like that? I'm hoping that is the new way of writing. I'm counting the days until graduation (May 16). I'm so glad I can express my feelings knowing other moms are going through the same thing. I wait by the mailbox…

boot camp is anywhere from 8-10 weeks I was told today

I emailed the RTC to inquire how they handle PIR if the 8th week falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving. My daughter leaves 10/1 for RTC and her 8th week would be the day before Thanksgiving putting PIR th day after.  They replied that boot camp is 8-10 weeks depending on the In Processing when they arrive and they have yet to determine if they will hold graduation day after Thanksgiving.  Has anyone had their son or daughter be in boot camp longer than 8 weeks?
