U miss him more when there's no contact

Wow, it's been over a year since I wrote in this blog.  Thanks to those of you that commented last time, it's nice to hear/read your opinions.

My son has been in for one and half years.  This August will be 2 years since he left for Chicago.  This journey we're all taking together has been quite amazing.  He's my oldest so he's the first to leave the nest.  It's a proud way to watch your son turn into a man.

He's out in the Pacific Ocean somewhere for the next…

PIR date for recruits arriving in GL May 6th

My daughter left for GL on Monday, May 6th,  and one of the recruits in the airport said that her recruter told her the base is "closed" for 4 days over the July 4th weekend, which should be her PIR date, will her PIR be postponed or moved up? Seem fishy?

Confused!

My son just left for boot camp yesterday....this will get easier, right?  I'm reading some of these and feel clueless and helpless.  What do I do now?  What are the meet and greets about and do I get invited or ????  I don't want to miss anything and let him down or make him feel like we don't support his decision.  Wish there was a step by step guide.

Happy Mothers Day!

"Hello All,

I just have to share.  I got two letters from my SR yesterday. I was so overcome with joy that I cried for about 2 minutes before I could open them. On the outside of one of the letters it said "HAPPY MOTHERS DAY"! The letters were so sweet just like him. He said he is passing inspection with 0 hits and passed all exams. He also said he got his uniform and said that it was "sweet".

It took three weeks to get a phone call and letters,…

New Navy Mom

Hello , my daughter is at Great Lakes. This is her 2nd week. I am familiar with the other branches of service but not the Navy. Is the bootcamp pretty much the same as the other Armed Forces?

Looking back at how we got here.................

My step-son has been training for over 4 years to make his dream come true.  He was 90lbs soaking wet, couldn't hardly lift anything heavier than a skateboard back then, and was afraid of everything.  Like many families, his mom and dad divorced a long time ago, and he stayed with his mom.  She has never been supportive of anything he ever wanted to do, and discouraged anything except staying at home with her.  I met him when he was barely 8 years old............in my family kids go to work…
