I was wondering how much notice is given to family that the recruit will not graduate with his class?

My son left May 22, so nice being able to go right to the gate and stay with him till he boarded. We received the box yesterday and I was surprised it was that soon. Guessing he will either be PIR either July 21 or July 28. I have hotel reservations for three different weekends! Before I know it, it'll be here, with the exception of the day after he left, this week has gone very fast....

I'm hoping to get a letter this week as I know they designate Sundays to writing letters home. I can't wait to see how my son is doing. We got the box last Friday, form letter on Saturday. His graduation is July 14th!

Wow, this time next week we will be on the road heading for Great Lakes. I can not believe that boot camp is almost over. I am sure my SR does not feel the same way!
Looking forward to witnessing this next milestone in my son's life. His family and friends are so proud of him.

So since I wrote "How I've Changed" I have become a little less obsessive. I have stopped stalking the postal employees, I don't spend hours online searching for more information and I'm not scared to chat online or send a random stranger a friend request. I spoke to my son on Saturday, most of the call was him laughing at me because I was trying to impress him with the Navy lingo I have learned. I think I used some of it incorrectly, but he just humored me. Because of this site and the… Continue

The hardest thing in life is to say goodbye to your child...we try to do it in baby steps starting at pre-school (oh how they cried) through high school, small trips here and there and then college.
Joining the military, however, is a completely different goodbye. It's almost like an abduction, no contact, only a quick call to confirm arrival and a box of their "proof of life" arriving, sometimes with no note.
This is tough, and feels foreign, against all parental instinct.… Continue

Can anyone please help me. My daughter left for boot camp on April 19th. The only thing that I have yet to receive is her box with personal clothing items and her cell phone. Should I be expecting to receive anything else anytime soon. I have no idea when graduation is and I am eager to get my room booked. Her recruiter is no help as he never returns my phone call, so very disheartening. Can anyone fill me in on what to expect or when to expect it?

Does anyone else feel like a stalker? I mean before my son left I never even knew what time the mail arrived. Now I know my postal workers life story. I have never engaged in chats with strangers online nor did I know how to operate online chat. I think the first message I got I froze and clicked offline accidentally. Now I spend hours reading every post just to hear how everyone is doing. I'm not being nosey, but it's because no one understands what we are going through but each other.… Continue

My son left last Thursday, April 27. Feeling lost. Probably because he's our youngest and last one out of the house.
