new Sailor Mom question

Hi, I am new here. With my son 2 weeks into Boot camp. Can anyone help with a couple of questions. Is he allowed to recieve a phone card in the mail while at boot camp?

Also what are the restrictions on a live in girlfriend when he is on base? Is this allowed? Is he allowed to live off base with her? Or do we need a quick wedding?

Thanks

Nancy

Tick tock!

Wow - can it really be nearing the end of June? Time is once again, flying by! As a teacher, I am officially on summer break. I am glad for the break, but I get desperately bored in the summer. This week I am busy though. I am making preparations for my son's big send off party before he leaves for boot camp. Did you know party stores don't carry many items specific to Navy themes? That's okay though because patriotic red, white, and blue are EVERYWHERE! So, I have found a ton of adorable… Continue

Nuclear Engineering - Charleston, South Carolina

How long after graduation does it take for the Navy to transfer him to school?  Do we mail his cell phone and clothes to his college? or bring items to the graduation?

Divorce while overseas

My son is currently deployed.   His wfie was staying back with me and other family members the past 4 months.  Unfortunately, she started an affair a month ago and she has admitted it to my son.  My son is devastated and understandable angry.   On top of the misery, she has never worked and has no source of income, but she withdrew all but a few dollars from their account.    My son wants a divorce and won't be back from deployment for several months.  Right now I am trying to help him keep his… Continue

Cell phones

My son will be leaving for bootcamp soon, will he be allowed to bring a cell phone.  If so, can he call from the airport in Chicago or from the bus ride to Great Lakes.  I'm sure I will be on the edge of my seat on the day he leaves..just wondering when I might be able to hear from him.  Thanks

Aviation Rescue Swimmer

My boyfriend just left for Navy boot-camp two days ago. He joined to become an Avaition Rescue Swimmer, and was told his boot-camp experience would be different than the norm. Has anyone else had a son/ daughter or spouse that went to BC in hopes of being spec opps? If so does this affect or communication as far as letters and MAYBE a phone call? Any advice would be great. :)

thank you

Ship date 6/21/2011

My son will be leaving in just a few days for bootcamp.  At this point, I am feeling very excited for him (some butterflys in the stomache, I suppose) and looking forward to hearing about his new adventures.  I just hope I can stay strong on the day he leaves and while he is gone.

My son arrived at boot camp yesterday!!

After a long journey from the adirondacks to chicago, il, I finally recieved the call from my son that he was there. What made that phone call even better was all 3 of his closest friends were over checking in on me to make sure I was doing ok when this strange number appeared on my phone. Knowing that I would get that 1 call once he arrived I picked up that phone to hear his voice say "mom I'm here". All of us starting yelling and cheering, I hope that gave him some strengh and encouragement… Continue

Emotions are going crazy!

My son has officially decided this is what he wants to do! I'm Proud, Happy and Sad all at the same time. I am having a hard time concentrating or thinking! I'm watching videos, reading articles and absorbing everything. His friends were here last night and asked him when he would come back, he said never....only for visits.....this is where I'm going to retire! I had to go for a walk in the mountains, that hit me hard! God I hope this gets easier!

Questions in a form, for the recruits?

Thought I saw a reference to a easy form that you send to the recruits and they just fill it out and send it home.  Anyone seen this?
