Still waiting

I am still waiting for the phone call.  Have received letters but I am dying to hear his voice.  It has been 4 weeks now it is so hard to believe.  This has been a long process for him.  He was originally medically disqualified due to his knees but we appealed and had to go thru the process all over again.  He had to redo the physical, get cleared by a independent orthopedic doctor, retake the asvab which he scored a  95 so he is a Nuke.  All in all this has been a 2 year process but I know…

Ship 12/Div 228

Well I got my first letter from my son yesterday. He sounds ok! Said he had his first meltdown a few days before but all in all without a little bit of homesickness he seems like he is doing ok. Said it was hard to receive mail and not be able to read it until they told him too. Looking for to graduation in July and being able to spend some time with him! It sure doesnt get easier the longer he is away!

My son is now a sailor!

Cannot begin to express how proud I am of Grant.  He went to bootcamp yesterday and called me for about 30 seconds last night to let me know he made it safely and that he loves me.  Yes, I cried again, but I am so proud and happy he is doing something so positive with his life.  Won't get to talk to him again for 3 weeks and that is going to be tough, but I will suck it up and be happy for him.

Offically depressed

Just got home a couple of hours ago from taking my son to his girlfriends house. He is leaving for a week to visit with her grandparents in Montana. His girlfriends parents are taking both my son and their daughter to grandparents lake house were they will be able to boat and fish and just hang out before he leaves on July 2nd and then she leaves for Texas for college in the fall.  It was a generous gift and I know that when you're 18 and in "love"  the idea of long-distance relationshop is…

Starting Week 3

I have been reading blogs and I have yet to get a phone call from my daughter.  Not even one to let me know she made it ok.  I would welcome a 3 second call right about now.  I did receive my form letter with her graduation date.  Made reservations already.  I can't wait to see her.  Does anyone else have a daughter in Div 237 Ship 12.  If so, please let me know.

Left for BC yesterday 6/19....miss my son

My son left yesterday and I miss him so much. He was happy to get started in this new adventure which made me feel better at ease. My daughter and I went to his final swear in which was nice and proud of my son. There was so many new recruits that shipped out and to see other families there supporting them was great. I got his call before he left and when he landed in Chicago. Although I heard and read about the 15 second call of I made it I am alive it seemed more like 5 seconds and…

Day #36 (4-1 day)

Hi Blog! It's been awhile. Erin has been at boot camp 5 full weeks. A couple weeks ago I saw a post from a mom who was 2 weeks ahead of me (5 done, 3 to go) and I thought to myself.. wow.. can't wait till I can say that. So here I am. A lot has happened in the last 2 weeks. Mail started coming from her. I got her mid-way call that lasted 30 minutes. My nerves and anxiety for what she is enduring have calmed down. This is the time we have all settled down and are just doing our time until…

SHIP 04 DIV 223

Hello...My son left for bootcamp on May 22nd and I've gotten the form letter with his PIR date on July 20th and two written letters from him.  He mentioned it was pretty rough in there but that he is fully committed and the roughest part should be over now.  Does anyone out there have a loved one in Ship 04 Div 223?  My son mentioned something about being with Spec Ops SWRT?  Does anyone have info on this?

SHIP 12 DIV 238

Hello, does anyone have a love one or spouse on Ship 12 Div 238. My husband is on there. He left June 11th 2012. It was and still is hard. I miss him so much. I received the  Form Letter today about graduation (August 03, 2012). He and I have never been apart from each other. He's a tough guy though and I know he will be fine. I have so much faith and him. The week he left I got his address from the recruiter. Everything was right except on the letter I received from him it had Recruit…

Ship 13 Div 236

I am now a bit more relaxed since the address has arrived so communication is now possible with my son.  I feel the hardest part to this has been that there was no way of communicating with him till now.  I can now move on past the worry stage and encourage him into his next steps of training.

May 29 - June 15

Time is passing.

18 days since my son was sworn in and headed to Great Lakes. He'd waited since October. He was SO excited. He was like a race horse at the starting line pawing the ground ready to get going.

Now that he is in the midst of his training I wonder, is it only me who is so excited and hopeful about what he will discover about Navy life? Is still sharing the excitement.

What is he doing now? Has he made friends?

Can't wait for the first… Continue

First day of the rest of his life

Today is the day my son's life as a U.S. Navy E-3 Mass Communication Specialist begins.  Its funny, he has always been so shy and unsure of himself, but I have never for one day of his life doubted his amazingness.  Quiet in speach but strong in spirit.  He took the ASVAB yesterday and had been so worried he wouldn't do well.  He scored a 79.  Almost 30 over the average.  After 2 years at a private university, he was ready for some change in his life.  The Navy sort of had him at hello.  I…
