Almost there

can't believe how fast time seems to fly by if, as a parent, spouse of your SR get to keep yourself busy in any way. Or get to talk to people in same "boat" as yourself. My children and I have been living a military life for the past 15 years and I'm glad to say that within the military no matter what branch people do not only become friends but also family. Even I missed my SR's first call it made me very happy to say that I not only recieced his 1st letter but also another call last Saturday,… Continue

A MOM GETTING STRENGTH FROM HER SAILOR

Where has time gone, I remember when you were small, The line you drew on the wall, every time to measure how tall. The running in the house, the hide and seek, I knew where you were, even when you would peek. I held you close when you were so cold, I offered my hand for you to always hold. I picked you up ever time you fell, Took care of all sickness to make you well. I rescued you when you felt any type of pain, Just to place you on the right path… Continue

Received the Form Letter

Hi! I just received the form letter from my son. His PIR is 8/28/2015 and he is on Ship 11 Div 285. My daughter is also in the Navy and remember there was a group with her PIR. Somehow I can't find a group with my son's PIR. Perhaps it hasn't been formed yet? Any clues? Or anyone with the same PIR?

Phone Call From 279

My daughter is in PIR 8/21/15 Division 279.  We received a phone call from her yesterday at Noon Central Time.  She said that today is their letter writing day and that they will be mailing their letters on Monday.  She arrived at Great Lakes on 6/24.  We received her box of stuff on Mon 6/29.  We received the form letter on Friday 7/3. She will be going to A school in Pensacola.  It was nice to hear from her!  She is doing good but sounded tired.  She likes the Navy.  We live in the Quad…

He's Navy now :)

So my son swore in on Thursday July 9 and leaves July 5,2016. He's a depper. Was going in for nuke however last test found out he's color blind. Big shocker for both me and him. So he is now a Machinist (MM). Can anyone tell me what that is and what training that is. I know he now stays in Great Lakes after boot camp. But not really sure what he will be doing. Thank you :)

Well, one of the things ive learned when talking to my son is tha t I sometimes need to ask the same questions more than once in order to get all of the information. :-)

He is not going to A school in Groton. He'll be staying at GL because he will not be on a sub.

He will be shipping out on Nov 4th, so now I will be planning some family stuff before he leaves. Maybe we'll even have thanksgiving before he leaves.

It's only been about a month since I found out about this…

Bootcamp

My son is on his way to RTC as I write this-wow!  (Should be getting the call soon). Is the day that they arrive there counted as the first "P day" or does that start tomorrow?

General Duty

My son got a general duty waiver what does that mean?  He was supposed to be aircrew but medical problems have changed that, unfortunately.  Will he be able to pick something else or will they pick it for him?

Great Lakes July 2015

I'm new to this site, but not to the Navy.  Our oldest  (1 of 4 ) went to Great Lakes today.   I allow myself an "allotment" to cry than to give thanks and grace. Im not sure what to expect...but find myself hoping for numerous phone calls and photos....lol. :)

A wise man said...... "Be like HIM, Brave!  And always a mom."

I love those words.

Excuse me CryptoDad, but you don't know me so don't judge me. I have all the faith in the world in my son. I don't, however, have the extra funds needed to buy a refundable ticket. I already have hotel reservations. As a nurse, I have to plan ahead and schedule to be off. Everything that I have read says that it is advisable to get refundable tickets as the date may change. Maybe you would like to fund my ticket? Continue

New Navy Mom

Hello Everyone

So I am very new to all of this. My son went to a recruiter and signed up. He was automaticly approved for the Nuke program so I am very proud of him. He goes down to MEPS on Wednesday 7/8/15 and will be sworn in Thursday 7/9/15. He is on the DEP program due to he doesn't graduate high school until May 2016. So I guess my question is, After he swears in on Thursday and signs the paper work will we have a date then that he leaves for boot camp (to where I can plan his…

Son just started OCS in Rhode Island, anyone else?

My son just started OCS training 7/5. One hour after he arrived I missed a call from him :( (I heard they get one 5 minute call and I picked mine up too late) I got a text right after saying he was sending me his address yet it never came through. Anyone know if they get to text it to us that first day or if he means it's getting mailed? Still bumming I missed that last call. And I'm dying to get a letter off to him.

I received the "form" letter and it has a PIR date of August 21. Does anyone know if this is likely to change? What are the odds? Needing to make travel plans. Thanks
