Random ramblin's

Well almost down to the end here and so many mixed emotions. So excited to see my son, but kinda nervous because his fiance has shown her true colors. She's deleted the entire family from her facebook friends list, took down her "engaged to" status and has stopped talking to all of us. Not sure how to handle it with him because I'm pretty sure she's gonna leave it up to us to tell him from the looks of things. Hoping and praying she doesn't write a letter to tell him because she was told… Continue

My son arrived at Corry Station August 13, 2011 for "A" School for CTN. He doesn't start class for a couple of weeks. What will he be doing in the mean time?  Also any information on what to expect for course load of CTN would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Safe Transportation for PIR

My son's PIR was 8/05/11.  My family and I flew in and did not rent a car.  I had heard about Sarge's Taxi Service on N4M so I had prearranged for him to pick us up at O'Hare Airport and deliver us to the Ramada Waukeegan.  Sarge was there despite our being late and he provided my family and my Sailor with transportation everywhere we went.  Sarge told us about the area, about PIR, and was a wealth of information.  His rates are the best around and his staff is kind, courteous, and SAFE. … Continue

Today is the day....

Can't believe it...it's been 5 1/2 months since my daughter was sworn in and this journey began.

So many emotions are going through my head right now. Miss her, nervous for her, excited for her, anxious to see her again...so on and so on.... And we haven't even dropped her off at the hotel yet. Tonight is going to be a night that I am never going to forget.

I know these next few days, weeks, months are going to have their ups and downs. But I do know for sure,…

Pensacola A School Mom

My son arrived yesterday. Had a 20 min briefing so was unable to give much info. Any other Pensicola Mom's out there? He did mention "phasing" but I'm not familiar with that term. He said he may have a longer stay there than anticipated and does not technically start school for 2 weeks? He said he will call soon with more info. I'm confident but curious on what to expect for him, any heads up would be greatly appreciated.

The Form Letter

Today was my lucky day when the mail arrived!! I received my SR's form letter! I loved that he even included what SR stood for for me!! He knows I am terrible at remembering acronyms~looking out for his mom!  It made me so happy just to read the few lines he wrote asking me to text his friends and get his address to all the important people in his life!  I sent the texts from his phone and now I am going to get busy… Continue

Pre-BUD's Explaination

I am trying to get my brain around the exact description and process of the pre-BUDS program.  Here is what I understand it to be, but please straignten me out if I am wrong. My son just left for boot camp. He has an MA rating, but he wants to get into pre-BUDs at boot camp.  His recruiter told him that at GL boot camp, they would ask who wanted to try out for pre-BUDs. Is it just a case of raising your hand to volunteer or is it more involved than that? Is pre-BUDS an 8 week boot camp separate… Continue

Perspective

Perspective:  In the aftermath of the latest devastating news of the loss of our servicemen, I’m in a dilemma about what to consider “something bad,” and where does my life fall in the mix?  By no means is this meant to be inclusive of the topic, but only some random thoughts from a person in the midst of “stuff.”

One of my friends reminded me of the long-ago days of the Vietnam War, when the evening news reported daily large numbers of U.S. soldiers KIA.  Death happens…

The Box

I received my box today ~ Loved seeing that my son had kept the boarding pass and receipt from his last meal at the airport! I will add this to his box of "things to keep"! His little sister was thrilled when the box got here! She said we got our kid in the box today minus our kid! She is missing her brother and she dug right in to see what was in the box he sent. Missing him but know that this is the path he choose to… Continue

And the Journey Begins

Today was the first day of my son's journey to becoming a Sailor in the United States Navy.  The best description of my emotions would be bittersweet.  I know that he is on the path of his own choosing yet my heart aches for the little boy who once lived in my house. I will find strength in his ability to persevere and overcome all that Boot Camp throws his way.  If he can do it, the least I can do is in the words of my… Continue

Do you have periods of long time not hearing from a child in the military?

My son is in the military sometime I may not hear from him for two years. I should be use to this behaviour, he's been in the  service for 14 yaers but, I can't get a e-mail or nothing. I beleive he's married to the military. Do any other parents have this problem.

My Publisher Photo Book

I just created a photo book in mypublisher.com that turned out fantastic! The printed book is just like a professional coffee table book you buy in a store. I've been looking for way to show my pictures and this is phenomenal! I love it! The price is also great! With a base price of $29.80 you get 20 pages and the cover. You can create stories in each book.

You are probably sick of this but...

I just joined this site. My son has known he was going into the military since he was 5. He even got his pilots license in high school while completing 4 years of NJROTC. He is going to MEPS next week. I have no idea what to expect. If he gets through MEPS, how long does it usually take before they are sent to boot camp? I am so clueless about the process and a kind co-worker told me that this type of site existed. Is there somewhere I should go for answers? Thanks, all. I look forward to…
