Fun picking cards

I have never been one to write letters or send cards for Birthdays or other special occasions, usually I just make a phone call, but I want to make sure that my son has something as often as possible so I spent 45 minutes at the grocery store today picking out 8 cards. It was great and positive for me because I had lots of laughs just looking at the cards (I'm sure I freaked a few fellow shoppers out). I ended up picking cards that mostly were blank inside with silly pictures of animals on the… Continue

Waiting and Praying

I was so sure we would get a phone call from our SR yesterday.  I made sure to be near our house phone and had my cell phone with me at all times.  At 3:15 a.m., the phone rang and I thought, "I can't believe he is calling so early", but it was a wrong number.  Go figure.  Now we patiently (or not so patiently) wait and pray for a letter. It will be so nice to finally hear from our SR and know he is safe.  I pray that we all get our prayers answered this week.

Goodbyes Suck

Sitting here after the dinner we just had with friends and family, i realize that sometimes it may seem like so much work having to deal with all the emotions caused by my sailors choice to join the navy but it is all worth it in the end. hearing the words "im gonna miss you more" come out of his mouth makes everything feel right.  knowing how hard it must be for him to leave his life and everything he's ever known makes me feel sad that i never thought of it first and asked him how he was…

Three more months

Darling daughter leaves for GL three months from today.  A long time, yet such a very short time.  She is chomping at the bit to get there.  Another holiday season in retail is just about driving her nutty -- and it is just beginning!  I think knowing that as soon as it is over she starts a new journey makes it just that much more difficult.  She will get through it without any problems, though.  She is…

Leaving in 14 days

So my son Zack is leaving in 14 days for BC.  I am so proud of him and the wonderful young man he has turned out to be.  This is so hard for me as I was a single parent and they are all I have had, so I am finding it so hard to let him go.  I know he has made an awesome decision and I stand by him 100%.  I cry all the time now as time drawers closer to him shipping out.  I am planning on going with him and taking him out to eat the night before and spending the night and seeing him off at the… Continue

Empty nest

I am living in a whole new world with my son being gone to bootcamp. He is such an energy and fills a room when he is in it that now that he is gone the house feels so empty. My husband is a very quite man and I find myself looking at him and waiting for Charlie's voice to come out of his mouth :-).Even though I enjoy being just me again after 18 years, I do miss being mom and all that meant. I know that my son is at the right place right now, but I just miss hearing his voice. I check the…

One Mother's Pride

My SR is currently at RTC.  I'm so proud of her decision to join the Navy, it's hard to put into words.  What's even more difficult to express is the shock when I found out she was even interested.  My SR is the middle of three children.  She has a big sister and a little brother.  She always felt as if her siblings were loved more than she was, even though that couldn't be further from the truth.  When she was a toddler, her peditrician actually diagnosed her with "Middle Child Syndrome." …

Latest from RTC Ship 11 DIV 001

Received letter yesterday from my son div 001 ship 11 said that their division flagged for passing first written test! They get another flag to carry around at graduation to "show off"  I thought that was cool..also, they got fitted for their dress blues and whites...he said they are really sharp!  Today is their PFA (Physical Fitness Assessment)  The first one was a practice assessment.  This one today will count.  Wish our boys luck!   =)

What a bunch of B.S.... Either allow recreational drugs in the Navy or not, no exceptions....

My time on the soapbox.

Every-time I hear the Navy say "Drug abuse puts lives and missions at risk and undercuts unit readiness and morale" it just ticks me off.  Either get with the program, or not.  Don't send mixed messages....

I know the Navy, and I know it well...  I love talking about the Navy, and helping those that don't…

My 1st Letter!!

YAY!!! My daughter is alive and well! Receiving a 12 page letter does a momma's heart good!  So I guess Wednesday is going to  be my "letter"day.  I have something to look forward to each week!  She sounds good and being challenged but in a good way.  My husband and I went grocery shopping and then stopped at the mailbox on the way home.  I then read him the entire letter before we went inside.  It made my night :)

June 26, 2009

I figured I would start my first blog post with how Andrew and I met. It's really not that interesting of a story, but it's OUR story. It was summer of 2009 and I was taking two classes at the local community college to make my next year at siue less stressful. On June 26, a mutual friend called me and invited me to a party at his house that night. I told him that I would not make it because I had 8am class the following morning. Honestly, it was only 8pm and I was already in my pajamas…

My son graduated on 8/26/11 then went to Navy A school in Pensacola

Hi, everybody. I'm just writing this to see if I can get any advice from y'all. I haven't heard from my son in awhile. He doesn't answer his cellphone. I've been told by his fiancee that she was told be co-workers that the Navy changes them, and for the first year or so they're not themselves. Is any other mom out there that may know of a situation going on there? I'm just worried because it's so very unlike him to NOT call in this…
