OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Correct Division addresses for Deployed sailors

My nephew is deployed on the USS Hopper (DDG 70). He sent 3 different family members hand written letters all within 2 days of each other. On the envelope it had his return address. Most of the address is also printed on the PO round date stamp near the postage stamp. My nephew's writing and the stamp area both say USS HOPPER (DDG 70) and FPO AP 96667-1289. My nephew also wrote his division number, but on all 3 letters the first character looks different from the other letters. For his…

  • We will be driving to Florida to see our Son for Thanksgiving weekend. He works on Thursday and we arrive late. He is very anxious to have a home cooked meal however it's not going to work for us to transport the food from Missouri. Does anyone know of a place we can either purchase a premade meal or a restaurant that would be good? I will be bringing the pies!! Also looking for things to do.... no "black Friday" shopping!!

Christsmas Day

Our son left for Boot Camp Nov. 5th and we are so excited, we just received a letter explaining we can "Adopt our Sailor" for the day on Christmas Day! We were not expecting to be able to see him over Christmas so we are so happy! Does anyone know where a nice place would be near Great Lakes RTC to take him on Christmas for dinner? He has to be back by 7:30 PM so I'm not sure we will have enough time to go into Chicago.

Power School Graduation and more

My Sailor graduated from Nuclear Power School on Oct. 18 at NNPTC in Goose Creek, SC. It was a hard 6 months on him and me. I promise you, I went through every test, that I knew about, with him. But in the end, it was worth it all. Graduation was WONDERFUL. If anyone has a Nuke, I strongly encourage you to attend Power School graduation. We had been told that this was the best of the 4 graduations to attend, and now…

official

Well it's official, HE BOUGHT HIS TICKET!! :) I'm so happyy! In 26 days he will be home just in time for Christmas. Last time I saw him was the beginning of October, which isn't a bad wait at all, but it definitely has been long enough. I cannot wait. Plus today is our 8 month which is always exciting getting to add another month onto how long we've been dating. 8 down, eternity to go

I have never been a Friday person

Fridays are a life line. Who knew? Well the Navy knew. (and apparently all these cool moms on N4M)

I have never allowed my life to revolve around Fridays like most of the population. I just thought what a dull thing to do. Everyday is amazing and I don't want to dread the work week and be sad on Sunday nights, so I will not be wrapped around Fridays...that is until my son left for Navy Boot Camp.

9 Fridays. 9 Fridays in Boot Camp.

I will live for Fridays for 2 months…

11/20/13

My daughter left for boot camp yesterday,. This was the proudest day ever. To see my child take a leap into her future with such enthusiasm, was a phenomenal sight! To all the Navy moms and all the military parents out there, your children are all truly amazing! Always tell them you love them, always tell them to strive to achieve their goals no matter how small or big those goals are, and always give them your love and support, they will go far and make you proud!

Graduation Day and Other Family Members Traveling to Chicago for the Day

NavyMoms,  I have a question.  My son graduates on 1/10/14 and I have family members who are already mentioning wanting to come to Chicago to watch the streaming video and then meeting up with us after the graduation.

The selfish side of me wants to tell them that this needs to be limited to Mom / dad / spouses as we won't have but just the day to spend with him.

I don't want to cause undue stress on the day or anxiety for him with more people there.

Am I just being…

Christmas Leave

Does anyone else find it crazy that the first leave day for our boys is in less than a month and they still don't have their slips saying when they can leave for sure. To me, that just sounds ridiculous because how are they suppose to know when they can come home for sure if they don't have their for sure day or not.

Christmas

Well he's been settled into California for almost 2 months now and is supposed to come home in the middle of Decemeber. He's liking it and is actually enjoying himself. Only problem is that he;s broke and doesn't have money for a ticket home. We've been talking about him coming home for christmas since the day he left. Now that its getting closer we were both getting so excited. Well the other day we finally thought of an idea where he would be able to afford a ticket, only to have that plan…
