Trying to get son home

Does anyone know how you can get some help getting your sailor home for the holidays? My sailor wasn't prepared to get time to come home and is now short on funds to get home.  I unfortunately don't have the money either.  Is there some assistance out there that we can utilize to get him home for the holiday that anyone is aware of?

Sad Situation

Has anyone ever gotten a call saying that your son or daughter has been moved to another division and will not graduate with her unit. I got that call tonight. She said mom, I tried my best. She was so hurt and it's all because she can't pass that dang prone float. I was really excited & looking forward to Friday. Now I have to cancel airfare, hotel, etc. I wish it was a way they would let the recruits graduate and then stay until that area is complete. She's come so far & now this. Can… Continue

Graduation Gifts for OCS

Hello!

So proud my son will graduate on Dec. 18!  It's been a very long haul (started in July) - first he was NPQ'd for Aviation due to vision issues, then he declined an offer to join the Civil Eng Corps - because he wanted to try for Oceanography - and he got it!! It's all turned out beautifully, and Mom is Very Proud.

Question, any ideas what kind of gift to give at commissioning?  Ideas and suggestions welcome!

My thanks -

Deb - Proud Navy…

Boot camp during Christmas and New Years

My son is leaving for boot camp on 12/15/15.  Are they allowed to make calls during Christmas or do they have any kind of "time off" like a few hours during this week where they can see family if they are out at Great Lakes during this time?

12/1 "I Swear"

Yesterday he swore in; he flew out a few hours later and is now doing basic ... So proud!  I gotta say it ... these are the strangest emotions!  He's been married 3 years and out on his own, has a baby on the way, and I've got these emotions that make this mess of pride and sadness.  I've been told I'm suppose to and this is normal ... WEirD and WoW!

Leaving for Japan

My son graduated from his A school in November and will be leaving for a three year deployment to Japan in late December. I have so many questions that I don't know where to begin. I guess starting with life on the ship. What can he bring with him? From what I've read he won't be able to use his new iphone. How can I contact him if there is no internet on the ship? How long before he would be eligible for leave? 6mths,1 year? Once he is eligible for leave is he responsible for buying the…

If your son or daughter is awaiting an OCS offer

For all you prospective Navy moms, I would like to share the results of a poll I took when my son was in OCS. I had been frankly shocked to see the process take so long. From college graduation to swearing in, it was a 23-month ordeal. So I asked the friends and family group of 02-16 grads how long it took their LO's to get to Newport and the answer was an average of around 24 months. I was amazed. Some took just 4 months (engineers in high demand) and others took over 3 years to get the…

Tonight is his last night in his own bed for a long time....

When we discussed life options with my son back at the beginning of his Senior year, he mentioned that he had spoken with a recruiter about the Navy and wanted more information. Being the kind of parent who wanted him to make an informed decision, we made calls. We did research.

In April we took a trip out to California where we had the privilege of a tour on the base and I could see it in his eyes; this was exactly his path.

My spouse is LEO, prior Crime Scene Investigator and…
