I am saddened today as I read about the death of a young marine. But even more saddened that the AP decided to publish pictures of his death after his Father asked them not to publish them. Several months ago we had many discussions on this site about the publishing of pictures of fallen soldiers/sailors/airmen as they are brought home. I did not support that nor do I support publishing pictures that have been published of this brave young man that died for our county. What in the world is the… Continue

The NAVY may accelerate their life ...

but God is using this (stage of my son's life) to accelerate my faith. I am surprised at the outcome.

How precious is the written word—

from my recruit.

We just received our first "real" letter. It was actually a couple of days' worth lumped together in one envelope. That made it all the more real. We were so excited my husband & I almost argued over who got to keep possession of the "letter" today while he goes to work. I wanted to scan it and send to all our family; he wanted to copy and post it beside his office. Dads feel vindicated (variations of "you were right, Dad," are read between the lines; Moms… Continue

New Poll Video: "OPSEC & Internet Safety"

Hello again, Navy Moms (and other Navy loved ones)!

Did you know that posting something as simple as a name or an innocent photograph can threaten lives and missions thousands of miles away?

Thereʼs been a good bit of discussion on N4M about safe and wise posting in our forums and blogs – particularly as it relates to operational security (OPSEC) and privacy for our Sailors and their families. We know you’re eager to share news about your Sailor, but it’s important to keep… Continue

After 1 year of service the home visit was great

I thought it would be like the after A school leave and it was not. He had grown more and chose to really be home. Gosh it was such a long time before he came home this time, but he really came home as a grown man. It was weird. He stayed home every day and night. The last night he was here, his Dad had to strongly tell him that we were gonna go and have a drink with his buddies (Our Sailor turned 21 during FEX). And now three weeks later, not even one phone call. Rough stuff. Guess we just… Continue

Taking a deep breath.... almost....

As I look back at my N4M, Facebook, USNA, dropshots, plebesummer, and all the other places I have been over the last 3 months, it is hard to believe HOW much has gone on. I looked at my last post here, and it has been 4 months Yikes, I bet all the other N4M's think I have faded away. On the contrary. I have been so consumed with the prep for Annapolis since the month before Scott's graduation, and the weeks after PPW, and finalizing Scott's much needed items. We have been to the Congressional… Continue

PIR 8/21/09

I went to Chicago and had the most wonderful time. It was so amazing to see the PIR! I am a Army brat and have been to many military ceremonies but this one tops them all! The tremendous pride you feel when your child becomes part of our country's Navy is so overwhelming. I thought my heart was gonna jump out of my chest.

The whole weekend was a whirlwind of activity, wish I could of stayed longer. My grandson had a great time. He was pretty good during the ceremony, he feel asleep at the… Continue
