Spammers - Security Update!

A follow up to my first Blog about spammers as the issue seems to have resurfaced...

I want to begin by apologizing for any uneasiness the spammers on this site may have caused. I have been banning them as soon as I spot them or am alerted to them. Some of them clearly have profiles that imply that they are here for the wrong reasons - others do not and go about spamming through PM's etc. - which is where your help is vital. To find out how to best alert me to a spammer, please see… Continue

New Poll Video - Chief Vanderwall Discusses A/C School!

Hi Everyone!

I am excited to announce that we have a new web video for you! As promised, this one is on the topic of A/C School. We hope this will start to answer some of the questions you may have about the next step in your Sailors’ career following Boot Camp.

As you will see this video comes from Chief Vanderwall, he’s a Senior Classifier out of Minneapolis. Since he helps Sailors get placed into their careers, he knows first-hand what A & C School is all about and… Continue

FYI: What is a Surface Warfare Officer (SWO)? What is Their Role and Their Assignments?

What is Surface Warfare?

Surface Warfare is the community within the Navy that involves the use of the surface fleet's ships for the missions of forward naval presence, sea control, and projection of power ashore. Surface Warfare Officers (SWO's) are the men and women who, as junior officers only a year out of college, lead the sailors within the many specialized divisions of a ship's crew. Many of these young officers aspire to someday command their own ship.

Keeping The Peace

As many of you are aware, there has been some negative energy on this site, mostly rooted in our political forums, that have escalated into blogs and individual pages.

Earlier this week I froze the conversations on a few of the boards. This was partially to allow me to go back and see how things progressed but also to give some of you a chance to take a step back and take a breather. You’ll notice that I have gone in and deleted a great deal of the comments that were off subject, not… Continue

Phone call and Christmas Stuff

Well, we got a quick phone call from Jay the Tuesday before Christmas... it was so nice to hear his voice!!! I nearly screwed up though... with this economy and my lack of work, I tend not to answer calls from numbers I don't recognize so, I missed his first call. Then I sat and willed him to call me back while I stared impatiently at the phone.

He called back, and he spoke a mile a minute! I've never heard my son speak that much, that quickly - EVER! I had to get him to stop and… Continue

My Mama's Work with Her Grandchildren was NOT in Vain!!

Our Christmas trip started with several inches of the fluffy white stuff reeking havoc on the Michigan highways and at Detroit's airport. Our flight out was delayed for over three hours and I really think we were the lucky ones that made it out of the airport and down to Norfolk, VA by way of Annapolis/Baltimore, MD.

Thank goodness for the warm welcome arms of those Navy/Marine buds that your kids make along the way in their career. A… Continue

New Year's Traditions...

traditions Pictures, Images and Photos

It's here! We waited all year for it!! Another New Year's Day!

Does your family have a special New Year's Day tradition that they enjoy or celebrate? My hubby would be quick to say...FOOTBALL!!!

But I'm thinking of other traditions, like I knew this one family that would cook pinto beans all day and it was supposed to bring good luck all year. Another one did something with… Continue

A thank you from the USS Rodney M. Davis...

I wanted to say on behalf of all RODNEY M. DAVIS Sailors, THANK YOU for ALL of the cards.

I know that you told me before they arrived of the quantity, but I know that I really did not realize the quality. The cards arrived onboard on 24 December as we arrived inport Vasco Nunez de Balboa, Panama. I had called away an All Hands working party to bring the mail and other stores (food and parts) onboard. The first truck on the pier to unload was the mail. The bags started to get… Continue

Spammers UGH!!!!

Moms,

I had to take a two day Xmas vacation to see the fam. Didn't realize that in my brief absence, this lovely site would become a spam haven! Not what we want here ladies! I am feverishly banning them as quickly as I can, but if you'd like to help me catch them quicker, here's how you can help:

1) Message me as soon as you see one.

2) Make sure to include their user name, not the comments so much. Once I ban a person by name, all their comments disappear, so the name is… Continue

My Cousin's O'Hare Airport Story

My cousin who is a minister was flying last week from Akron to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, through Chicago. Her brother is Dick who is mentioned in this. There's a part where she writes about people giving seats to the military so they can get home!

My trip was quite eventful getting out there. I'm surprised you hadn't heard, as Dick was having lots of fun! I made it to O'Hare with no difficulties, but my flight from there to CR was cancelled. No crew showed up (or not enough, at least) to… Continue

A Sailor's Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, the ship was out steaming,

Sailors stood watch while others were dreaming.

They lived in a crowd with racks tight and small,

in a 80-man berthing, cramped one and all.

I had come down the stack with presents to give,

And to see inside just who might perhaps live.

I looked all about, a strange sight did I see,

No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.

No stockings were hung, shined boots close at… Continue
