Wow, it's hard to believe over a year has passed since my son left for boot camp. It has just flown by these past months. We've learned to communicate in a multitude of ways including facebook, skype, webcam, sprint phone cards, and of course email. We have certainly had a few bumps and bruises along the way, but I'm happy to report that his injuries have healed and he has settled into life on base in Japan very well. He's learned some things the hard way...but who doesn't. He has advanced to pe…

It’s been a few weeks since I have updated all of you on Trevor, so thought it was time to do so again as there have been some recent developments.
First of all, I think when I wrote the last update I told you that he had broken his scaphoid bone in his hand. He was in a cast that went from just under his arm-pit down to his knuckles with his thumb in a up position. Since then he has been seen again to have a smaller cast put on (this one goes just below his elbow) and have x-rays taken. The do…

It’s been awhile since I’ve added an update on Trevor so I thought it was about time. We talk to Trevor by phone about once a week as with the time difference, work schedules and such it is hard to converse more often than that. In addition he isn’t really able to discuss his work with us so much of our conversations are on a more personal level.
What we do know is that he is enjoying his time in Japan. For the most part he finds his work exciting and interesting. He appreciates the opportunity…

Our son started his own blog at my encouragment. Here's what he wrote for his first blog from Japan:
I have finally arrived in Japan. Let me first say this is the most amazing place I've ever been to in my entire life. The rolling countrysides are teaming with an unimaginable amount of life. Even in the more downtown parts of Japan; you'll see how green this place is. The people, despite some language barriers are extremely nice. Culturally, the Japanese view military members extremely highly;…

So marks another milestone in our navy experience. We said good-bye today after 21 days with our son. He's on his way to Japan (his first duty station). He is excited at the adventures that await him and anxious to put to use his skills and training. We had a nice visit with him the last few weeks. While selfishly I would have kept him here forever, life moves forward and so must we.
Our trip to the airport this morning was interesting, since he has never traveled internationally before, and th…

Well folks, Trevor graduated A-school yesterday morning! He is an ITSN now and very proud of his accomplishments, as he should be. They sent him home for a 21-day leave before he has to report to Japan. Last night he flew in at 10:15 p.m. last night. We were fortunate enough to find a small waiting area at the end of the hall where they emerge (as opposed to waiting in baggage claim). We sat camped out ready for him to round the corner. He fortunately called ahead to say the were on the ground,…

I have edited out names and some specifics for security purposes, but in his usual flare he has told his story far better than I could have:
Dear friends, family, and miscellaneous people who feel compelled to read your inbox while you slip away momentarily to make that "sammich" in the kitchen, (Don't want to leave anyone out on this one).
This has to be my biggest update yet; as I am nearing completion of my "A" School. For those of you who don't know what an "A" School is, it's the Navy ve…

It's been a few weeks since I really posted an update about our son. He is currently at Pensacola, Fl for A-school. His classes finally started this week. He had to wait about 3 weeks for classes to form. He is really enjoying the change from boot camp. Since he can have his cell phone we hear from him daily, which has been wonderful. He's making some good friends and likes his classes so far.
Him and a few buddies went to the NEX and bought some steaks and have been cooking out for some of the…

We just attended graduation this weekend. We arrived the day before and to be sure we knew where we where we were going we drove over to the naval base. We entered the guest parking lot and just sat in the car, the knowledge that he was within those gates and so close. The next day we went through the main gate and security. We went early, wanting to avoid the long lines. We waiting with anticipation for the ceremony to start.
The ceremony was impressive, the new sailors all 'decked out' in the…
