Stopped at Cracker Barrel for "linner" then they (12 in a van) will be on their way to RTC.

I had a restless sleep last night and knew my son would too ... we were texting at 0313.  Lots of <3 and :) and words of encouragement passed between us, and gentle tears (for me at least).  Tyler has been very choked up with his HS friends over the last few days he's been home and dinner last night with one of his closest buddies.  He fully understands that "nothing will ever be the same."  He is the first of his friends to start their journey into adulthood, both frightening and exciting.

Now that he is physically moving forward and his fellow recruits are "cool," Tyler's demeanor has changed, less frightened and more excited.  Positive blessings to my son and his fellow recruits in becoming sailors.

"May you have fair skies and following seas!" (from one of my best friends, an old salt)

Welcome to this amazing journey. Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in June, to connect with others with loved ones who left today and may have PIR together. Be sure to also check out Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones).

Yes, we hope he and all of our recruits and Sailors have fair winds and following seas.

I've had two phone calls so far, 1st was Sat. 13-JUL and 2nd Tues. 23-JUL.  The 1st call was with quivering lips, but we remained strong -- no tears (I told him if he started crying, then I wouldn't be able to stop myself either).  He passed his PTs and is definitely graduating on 23-AUG!!! I could already detect a change in my son's voice, he's not mumbling anymore--lol.

His second call was more much more light-hearted...I could hear some of his mates in the background...the stress isn't as obvious in his voice as it was at first.  He's doing really well and was appointed as Starboard Watch, but apparently is still be yelled at.  I told him that was 'cuz they only want to see if you can and want to do better.  He's worried he'll be "fired," but I encouraged him to view it as a new opportunity to learn something else, if he is fired.

Well it's less than a month away that my SR becomes a sailor.  I am so proud of him!!!
