appropriate dress for graduation

Our son just called us to let us know he passed everything and is ready for graduation from boot camp on July 2nd. Yay!!!!! We are so proud of him. It just dawned on me that I don't know what is appropriate for my husband and I to wear to the ceremony. Does anyone have any advice for me?

You won't need to wear formal you can dress casual. Enjoy the graduation.

Casual, but nice. You'll be taking pictures, and it is a serious occasion, not like a high school graduation!

Not too casual though. You should not wear jeans and t-shirts. Dress like when you go to a church. This is a very special occasion and you do want to look your best for your sailor because they will be dressed in their best uniform which is a dress white.

Congratulations and I hope you and your husband will have a great time with your son!!

yup I agree with Anti M and Melia. You want to look nice. Sunday church clothes. Your sailor will be around all their colleagues and higher up's you don't want to look messy and embarrass them. (it does happen!)

Glad you asked this question as I was wondering the same thing!!

For the guys..A pair of dockers, collared polo shirt tucked in will look nice. Ladies should wear comfortable cotton skirt, dress, capris or pants with a nice shirt. Remember it is HOT this time of year up there. With everyone packed in the hall you don't want to feel sweaty! I also agree, a pair of low heel or flat, dress sandals works best. Forget the flip flops. Besides, they offer your feet no support or comfort at all.

Can anyone tell me when you find out exactly when the graduation date is? My son is leaving for boot camp on 9-9-09 and his recruiter told us that we would not know any details until after he has begun boot camp? It doesn’t seem like a lot of time to be able to purchase plane tickets and get accommodations in adequate time.

I just looked at the weather report and it's supposed to be 75 for a high on Thursday. That is a welcome relief to us because it's been hovering just below or just above 100 down here in Texas for several days!!!

Today's weather in Chicago is just a mere 57 degrees ... this weekend will only be in the 70's ... the advice these Navy mom's have given is excellent. Your sailor will be graduating in the new building ... no longer a long walk and just accross the street from where you park your car. Please don't forget your car pass or you cannot even enter and also your ID. Comfortable shoes is great but take a light sweater or jacket .... the winds are coming off the lake and it is kind of chilly here which is uncommon.

Congratulations to you and your sailor .... have a wonderful time!!! Please thank your sailor from my family for his service to our country. :)
