My oldest child, my beloved and only daughter left for boot camp a week ago today. It's been a wild and exciting ride thus far! I never knew my heart could feel so many emotions in such little time. Yesterday, I received the form letter and the box within an hour of each other, and it felt like Christmas!

I am impressed that my daughter could cram so many words onto those four lines! I get the idea she dislikes the food and misses my cooking. She's also worried she looks like a little boy with her new Navy hair cut, although I am certain she is as beautiful as ever.

I have written about a dozen encouraging letters thus far, and wish that she gets to read them soon. I am also looking forward to her first "real" letter home. I don't think I've anticipated anything this much since awaiting her birth 21 years ago.

I think about her all the time and I try to imagine what she may be experiencing. I wonder if when she's challenged if she remembers all of the things we've taught her? I hope she hears my voice in her head telling her to stay on the path, and to keep reaching for the stars. I pray she knows that she is never alone. I am still here coaching her on.

I trust she keeps her Momma close to her heart; as I keep her close in mine.

OMG! My son (our oldest at age 21) left for bootcamp a week ago, too. I received "the box" the other day. You could say it was a bittersweet moment. Just awaiting the letter and the phone call. I am just like you. I find that almost every moment is thinking about what he is must be doing now. I was able to find some bootcamp videos on youtube.com that has helped with understanding what they are going through. It nice kinda of knowing that he is doing and when.. Take care and stay strong.. = )

Yes I've watched every boot camp video on Youtube aswell! That's what got me through those first 48 hours I think. lol
I also ordered a book that's supposed to give some insight on boot camp called: Honor, Courage, Commitment: Navy Boot Camp It should arrive any day. I'd rather have my kid's first letter, but I will take what comes at this point.

It's still early in the game, but I know the end result will be worth everything we've gone through.

Hi SeaBeeMomma,

Your post made my mind rush back to that day when my son left for BC. It was one of the most difficult times of my life, emotionally. Thankfully, I'll see my boy at PIR in less than 3 weeks. Hang in there! I'm glad you found us all on N4M.

Hi! My oldest daughter is also there(Ship 11, Div 213). She left on April 19th. We have also received her box & I still cry when I think about it. I still wake up in the mornings thinking that she's here. It's tough! Good luck to you & your daughter!

I can not explain how much getting that first real letter from my daughter has healed my worried soul and fixed my broken heart. I have been on cloud nine all day! I look forward to what lies ahead and know without a doubt that she has made the right decision and will succeed. I promise you, that any of you feeling down right now by the distance and uncertainity, will feel uplifted soon.

Hi everyone! My son left Monday for BC. I got that short 1min call at1:21am Tuesday and wanted to reach through and hug him so hard! I slept in his bed Sunday & Monday night just to feel close to him! I've been keeping Kleenex in business since the beginning of April! Surprisingly, I've not cried much since waking up Tuesday morning though! I try to keep busy and am in the process of cleaning his room! I have been writing letters every day, now all I need is his address so I can send them! A friend of mine told me to called his recruiter cause they can pull it up on the computer, but I got the boss-lady and she's a ***** so I didn't even ask! Guess I'll just wait til I get his box and letter. Wow, it's so hard to not have him here, (he's the youngest of 2, the other a girl). I got off the couch yesterday and started back the hall, towards his room, to ask him what he wanted for dinner! Wow, eye opener for sure!
SeaBeaMomma...I am in the process of reading that book, it's really good! My friend let me borrow it and another one called Letters from Boot Camp.
So, for now I'm just awaiting the arrival of "the BOX", writing letters, and trying to keep busy! But, I sure would like to be a fly on the wall where he is so I could watch over him!
Talk to you all later!
