New to this site. I am 33 years old single mom of 6 kids and my 17 year old was just sworn in this past Monday. I have been going nuts since then, not really but just every thought imaginable is going through my head.

I probably have the busiest summer ahead of me and was hoping I could get some ideas on a party to throw for my son? He is graduating from high school in June, his bday is June, and as of right now is set to leave for boot camp Sept. 16th. But this may change because his job is most likely changing before he leaves. All of my kids birthdays are in summer and I have another son graduating from 8th grade. Very hectic.

I was going to throw one party though for my eldest for his birthday, graduation and send off to boot camp. This should be fine, right? Thing is I want to go all out. This is my baby, well not anymore but you know what I mean. I am so unbelievable proud of him and scared and just a mixture of emotions.

My father was in the Navy for over 30 years and is dying right now of Parkinson's disease from the Agent Orange in the Vietnam War. My son wants to follow in his foot-steps and I just want my son to remember everything. We didn't think my dad was going to make it to see him sworn in and now I am unsure of if he will make it until he leaves for boot camp or to see him graduate. So while this party is for my son, it is for my father too to be able to partake in this huge moment with my son and be surrounded by everyone who loves him.

Any ideas would be great. I was just going to have it at my house and get a tent maybe in my backyard. Have a bon fire at night. I am expecting this to go all night long. Just wanted ideas on decorations, food choices, presents. I don't know I just feel overwhelmed. :P

Sorry for making this so long.

I'm doing same thing for party. Grad birthday and send off in one big party. Think the most important thing is to try not to over think the thing. I am a planner to the max but another navy mom friend of mine said to remember that you want your son to enjoy and relax before he goes. His memories are already with him so what happens on that one day is just frosting! Maybe plan for your son have a special day just for him and your dad? My son's high school colors are navy and white so got lucky there! I read on here that one mom had guests write notes to the SR and then sent them to him during boot camp. Our summer is going to fly by!!!

That is true. I like the idea of he and my dad having a special day. That is an excellent idea.

Good job SorinMom.  I would copy everything you did for your son.  Enlist all family members to help by bringing a dish.  Your friends would probably love to help to.  Maybe you can get someone to man the kitchen and clean off tables as needed.  I used everyone I could think of and they love to help and be a part of it. Delegate . I just don't want you to be overstressed on this wonderful day.  Family, friends good food and tent and bon fire, all have the ingredients for a great time.  Just relax (if that is possible) and go with it.  It will be great!
