My son left for Bootcamp on 3/22 and I am so anxious to hear from him. I am very supportive of his decision and beyond proud of him. I just never realized how hard this would be on me. I really just want to to talk with him. Anyone else's child leave on 3/22?

My daughter left on March 22nd as well.  I received her box yesterday and slept with it (weird I know).  I was expecting a letter to be in there but nothing.  They say the form letter will come within the next 7 days and I am impatiently waiting.  Ive already started looking at flights for the 13th of May because I added up the Fridays!

This might be an odd question but could someone please tell me what PIR stands for?

Denisep216,

The Form Letter arrives an average of ten days after the recruit's arrival at the RTC. Some will have it 7 days after arrival (a few earlier than that, but not many) and most will have it by 14 days after arrival. It will tell you your recruit's address and PIR date and other important information. Keep it in a safe place.

Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening and what to expect.

PIR stands for Pass-in-review and is another way to say graduation from Navy boot camp.

The Page, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), will help you with many of the new terms you will come across.

Denisep216, by counting 9 Fridays, PIR will most likely be 05/20/2016. Some who arrived that date--as seen above--will only have 8 Fridays and were placed in the last divisions in the previous week's TG. It is possible for some who arrive on the same date to have PIR a week apart so even if someone with a loved one who shipped on the same day reports receiving the PIR date, your recruit may or may not have PIR on the same date. Wait on The Form Letter to know the PIR date for sure.
