WOW, in TWO days, my son will be graduating from bootcamp! I honestly didn't think I would make it! I KNEW my son would! (I raised him! he can do ANYTHING!) I remember that night he left! It felt JUST LIKE his FIRST day of kindergarten! And somehow, I made it through THAT too! And here I am awaiting A school, and the "freedom" that brings!

For the last 20 years, I have talked to my son EVERY SINGLE DAY of his life, and all of a sudden, I woke up and he was gone! I KNOW we raise them to "grow wings" and "fly away" Somehow, I just imagined it would be less painful! I have heard SO MANY people talking about the "joy" they experience when THEIR kids went away, or off to college, or gotten married. Maybe, i'm missing something? I have NOT had ONE day of "joy" since my son has left! (ok, well MAYBE the day he called me the first time? ) Is it supposed to be SO LONELY with your children gone? Am I supposed to get another hobby, BESIDES being Eric's Mom? And what if I don't want to?

I guess in time, I WILL adjust to him being an official "grown-up" but I don't think I can EVER get used to walking past his bedroom door, and NOT seeing HIM, or that PILE of dirty clothes! I guess I don't have a choice BUT to get used to it!

PLEASE don't get me wrong, I couldn't be MORE PROUD! I just REALLY miss MY son! The Navy may be borrowing him, but he will ALWAYS be MY SON! I guess that's why I joined this site? Maybe other Mom's can help me DEAL with this ache that I have!

SO, wish me luck ladies! I've got a LONG ROAD ahead of me! Looks like the "fun" is JUST beginning! And to The Navy....PLEASE....Take care of MY son!

Wow!!!  I can't even begin to tell you how very much I feel the same way!!!  My 18 y.o daughter just "shipped out" to Boot Camp on Tuesday (the 24th) and I miss her so much my heart just ACHES!!  I, like you, don't really understand the "joy" people talk about when your kid has left the nest)0:  My daughter and I were pretty much joined at the hip for the past 18 years, and now I can't even walk through the house without being reminded of her CONSTANTLY!!  It is KILLING me right now not to be hearing from her or know if she is okay????  The one thing that is giving me peace right now is knowing that this has been her dream since she was 9 years old, and now it has finally come true!!  Best wishes - and maybe we can just talk and help each other through this terrible "ache?"
