Our son left on the 24th to Great Lakes and it was the hardest thing to do! He is our oldest and just graduated from high school. He called from the airport on his way out...tears :( Then, yesterday we got the box with his belongings. So, i guess now wait on the letter and phone call. Don't really know what to expect.

My Nick left for Great Lakes Sunday, Oct. 23. I just got his box yesterday. I knew what to expect form his under-a-minute phone call and the Great Lakes videos on youtube that show me where he is and what they do there so I'm not sure why I cried. I'm waiting with you.

My daughter left on the 24th too.  And I received her box yesterday.  I couldn't even go in her bedroom with out crying.  I just wish the letter would come soon.  She is my baby girl and my heart is so heavy!!!! I will let you know when I get my letter.

The box is the hardest, your child disappears into a black abyss, but there is light.  I received my first letter on Wednesday, and I was on cloud nine.  In the time he's been gone, Ive purchased a plane ticket to Chicago and made the hotel reservation, and I feel a little better that  I will see him on the day he's worked so hard for.  There are good days and then there are days when you reflect on their childhood, those are tough.  Hang in there! We here with you!

After the box, I believe it was a week after.  The brochure they send is extremely helpful with hotel ideas, and I booked my flight with MWR Friends & Family, they had the best price.  Please let me know if there is anything I can answer or help you with.  I still have not received a social phone call from my son.  Always wondering how he is, and adjusting to an empty apartment.

We got the letter today! Oh how sweet it feels to see his writing and get news. Well, his PIR date is Dec. 16th and that is the same day as his dad's birthday. My husband got his early gift :) The information in the packet is very helpful...now to plan a trip. Our son seems to be loving it there. He says its crazy and screaming all the time...he did not get sleep for the first 50 hrs. We have not gotten a call yet, but know he is ok.
