Daughter leaving for boot camp on August 31, 2017

Hello everyone, I haven't been posting on this site although I have been reading all of the questions and answers that have been posted. I've learned very helpful information. We found out today that my daughter will be leaving on August 30 for boot camp. I'm not sure which group to join- leaving in August or leaving in September. I thought maybe both to be safe. Her recruiter told her that graduation would be in 8 weeks of her ship date but I've seen on here it would be 9 weeks. I'm confused. I would like to start looking sooner rather than later for a hotel.

You will need to wait for the form letter to know for sure when her graduation date is. It can be right on when counting or plus or minus a week. It will depend on if the TG is full when she arrives, or if the TG from the week before is not etc. It makes it even harder to guesstimate since your recruit is female. The TG from the week before just might be waiting for females to arrive.

My suggestion is that you just do your motel and transportation research. Some of the motels will give discounts, for PIR but you might need to have the discount code that may be in the brochure that was mailed with our form letter. (PIR was 8/25/17). I did not receive my form letter until about 2 weeks after my recruit left for boot camp, but I did my research and called within a day of receiving my letter and I didn't have any issue getting a room at the hotel I chose. It also had a very late cancellation time.

We drove instead of flying, mostly because it was cheaper, but also that way we could stay more flexible with dates.

Also, keep in mind that just because your daughter sends a form letter with a PIR date that could change before graduation is over, for any number of reasons. Something as simple as passing notes to another recruit can put you in disciplinary action, or medical.

Flexibility is the key and also refundable or cancellation ability. Always have a plan B!!
