Navy For Moms

About a year ago, I saw a news piece that talked about children of deployed soldiers and sailors taking their Flat Daddies everywhere. Flat Daddies are life sized cardboard cutouts, waist up, of a Mom or Dad. At the time I didn't have a child in the military, but I toyed with the idea of having one made of my boss, just so he would know what it felt like to see himself scowling. I didn't, but last month I got to thinking about the idea again, and how I could use it to have something smaller made of my sailor son to take with me to N4M get togethers. I wanted my new N4M friends to see my beautiful child and have a face to go with a name. I even thought maybe just a head on a stick would work and I could call it, my lollipop kid.

I googled the term, Flat Daddy, and although I didn't find a Lollipop kid link, I found lots of links to articles and service providers. As a Mom, the price was reasonable, so I ordered one. But then I got to thinking about young families and their little people who grow by leaps and bounds in the blink of an eye. Some of the articles talk about groups, e.g. the Maine National Guard, sponsoring families of folks who are deployed.

In CT, we have New London and Groton, and I was wondering if anyone would like to join me in putting together a project like this.
