OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello!

So proud my son will graduate on Dec. 18!  It's been a very long haul (started in July) - first he was NPQ'd for Aviation due to vision issues, then he declined an offer to join the Civil Eng Corps - because he wanted to try for Oceanography - and he got it!! It's all turned out beautifully, and Mom is Very Proud.

Question, any ideas what kind of gift to give at commissioning?  Ideas and suggestions welcome!

My thanks -

Deb - Proud Navy Mom

There is an N4M forum with suggestions. http://navyformoms.com/group/bootcampmoms/page/gift-ideas-for-pir

I ordered a watch at Navy Outfitters for my son along with a Christmas ornament for myself.  I also ordered a PIR ribbon from an Etsy seller.  It may be too late for you to get that before your son's graduation.

My son told me he wants a nice Navy watch. So that's what I'm doing.

Anyone know details on giving a black backpack to recruits for A camp? best ones? When to give?

I heard there will be a place to buy items at graduation. Will the prices be inflated? My son isn't a watch person or really like a lot of "stuff''. Trying to figure out what to give him that will be helpful and meaningful is hard. I would like to congratulate and honor him...we have Christmas, graduation and his Birthday all in a short time frame. Ideas? His PIR is January 8th which is coming right up!
